Leafcutter Ant
Leafcutter ants are fungus-growing ants that share the behaviour of cutting leaves which they carry back to their nests to farm fungus. Next to humans, leafcutter ants form some of the largest and most complex animal societies on Earth. In a few years, the central mound of their underground nests can grow to more than across, with smaller radiating mounds extending out to a radius of , taking up and converted into 3.55 m individuals. Leafcutting groups Leafcutter ants are any of at least 55 species of leaf-chewing ants belonging to the three genera '' Atta'', '' Acromyrmex'', and '' Amoimyrmex'', within the tribe Attini. These species of tropical, fungus-growing ants are all endemic to South and Central America, Mexico, and parts of the southern United States.. Leafcutter ants can carry up to 50 times their body weight and cut and process fresh vegetation (leaves, flowers, and grasses) to serve as the nutritional substrate for their fungal cultivates. The leaf cutter an ...

Paraguay
Paraguay, officially the Republic of Paraguay, is a landlocked country in South America. It is bordered by Argentina to the Argentina–Paraguay border, south and southwest, Brazil to the Brazil–Paraguay border, east and northeast, and Bolivia to the northwest. It has a population of around 6.1 million, nearly 2.3 million of whom live in the Capital city, capital and largest city of Asunción, and its surrounding metro area. Spanish conquistadores arrived in 1524, and in 1537 established the city of Asunción, the first capital of the Governorate of the Río de la Plata. During the 17th century, Paraguay was the center of Reductions, Jesuit missions, where the native Guaraní people were converted to Christianity and introduced to European culture. After the Suppression of the Society of Jesus, expulsion of the Jesuits from Spanish territories in 1767, Paraguay increasingly became a peripheral colony. Following Independence of Paraguay, independence from Spain ...

Atta Silvai
''Atta laevigata'' (Smith, 1858) is one of about a dozen species of leafcutter ants in the genus '' Atta'', found from Venezuela and south to Paraguay. This species is one of the largest leafcutter species, and can be recognized by the smooth and shining head of the largest workers in a colony. ''Atta laevigata'' is known in northern South America as ''hormiga culona'' (literally translated as "big-assed ant"), or as ''sikisapa'' in Peru, ''zompopo de mayo'' in Central America, ''bachaco culón'' in Venezuela, ''akango'' in Paraguay, and ''chicatana'' in Mexico. In Brazil they are known as "''saúva-cabeça-de-vidro''" (literally "glass-headed saúva"), with ''saúva'' being the common name for all ''Atta'' ants. The colony sizes of these ants are made up of around 3.5 million individuals. Cuisine The ''hormiga culona'' has been eaten for hundreds (if not thousands) of years, as a tradition inherited from pre-colonial cultures such as the Guanes. The ants are harvested for ab ...
