Limassol Derby
The Limassol derby () refers to Limassol's local derby, Association football, football matches played between any two of AEL Limassol, AEL, Apollon Limassol, Apollon and Aris Limassol F.C., Aris, all played at Alphamega Stadium. It is widely regarded as one of the fiercest football rivalries in Cyprus due to continuous fights and riots amongst the teams' fans. The main derby is between Apollon and AEL, due to the large number of supporters the clubs have, the titles that both clubs have won in the past, and the historical rivalry between the two clubs. Background The rivalry is most intense in matches involving AEL Limassol, AEL and Apollon Limassol, Apollon as they historically play in the same division. The rivalry as a whole, however, had formed mostly due to all teams sharing the same home stadium, although recent league competitiveness also played an important role in its formation. The Tsirio Stadium () is an All-seater stadium, all-seater multi-purpose stadium in Limassol, Cyprus. The stadium holds 13,331 people and is mostly used for Association football, football matches. It was the home ground of the three biggest clubs in Limassol, which have now moved to the Alphamega Stadium. 2008–09 Cypriot Cup
The 2008–09 Cypriot Cup was the 67th edition of the Cypriot Cup. A total of 28 clubs entered the competition. The tournament involved teams from the Cypriot First Division and lower divisions, with matches played over two legs in the early rounds. It began on 23 September 2008 with the first round and concluded on 16 May 2009 with the final which was held at GSP Stadium. APOP Kinyras won their 1st Cypriot Cup trophy after beating AEL 2–0 in the final. Apollon Limassol FC (, ''Apollon Lemesou'') is a Cyprus, Cypriot sports club, based in Limassol. It has Association football, football, Apollon Limassol B.C., basketball and volleyball teams. Overtime (sports)
Overtime (OT) or extra time (ET) is an additional period of play to bring a game to a decision and avoid declaring the match a tie or draw where the scores are the same. In some sports, this extra period is played only if the game is required to have a clear winner, as in single-elimination tournaments where only one team or players can advance to the next round or win the tournament and replays are not allowed. The 2009–10 Cypriot First Division was the 71st season of the Cypriot top-level football league. It started on 29 August 2009. APOEL were the defending champions. Competition modus Fourteen teams will participate in the competition. Eleven of them have also competed in the 2008–09 season while the remaining three teams were promoted from the Second Division. Each team will play against every other team twice, once at home and once away, for a total of 26 matches. After these matches, the two teams with the worst records will be relegated to the Second Division. The remaining twelve teams will be divided into three groups of four teams each. The teams ranked first through fourth will play out the champion and the participants for the European competitions. The 2007-08 Cypriot First Division started on 1 September 2007. The defending champions were APOEL. This year, for the first time, the championship featured a group stage play-off system.
