Libčice nad Vltavou () is a town in Prague-West District in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 3,600 inhabitants. Etymology The name Libčice is derived from the old personal Slavic name Lubek (Ľúbek, Líbek), meaning "the village of Lubek's people". The personal name itself was derived from the adjective ''ľúbý, libý'', meaning 'nice' or 'pleasant' in Old Czech. The attribute ''nad Vltavou'' ("upon the Vltava") refers to its location near the river. The name first appeared as ''Lubcice'' in a Latin text. Boleslaus II the Pious ( ; 932 – 7 February 999), a member of the Přemyslid dynasty, was Duke of Bohemia from 972 until his death in 999. Günter Bittengel
Günter Bittengel (born 14 July 1966) is a Czech football coach and former player. He played as a striker in the Czechoslovak First League and went on to play in the Czech First League after the dissolution of Czechoslovakia. As a result, he also represented both Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic at international level. Club career During his playing career, Bittengel made over 100 league appearances for Dukla Prague in six seasons at the club. He was part of the Dukla team which won the 1989–90 Czechoslovak Cup. Bittengel then went to Germany to play for Bayer Uerdingen. During his time in Germany he played 153 league matches, scoring a total of 20 goals. Karel Franta (1 May 1928 – 19 July 2017) was a Czech painter and illustrator. Life Franta was born in Libčice nad Vltavou, and studied as a graphic designer in Prague. He collaborated with important designers for children, including Jiří Trnka and Helena Zmatlíková. Later he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts at Miloslav Holý and Vladimír Sychra. After graduating, he was an illustrator for children's magazines, and also illustrated several children's books, including "The Lion Leopold" by Reiner Kunze. Miroslav Štěpánek (2 December 1923 – 28 November 2005) was a Czech artist, director, screenwriter, set designer, illustrator, graphic designer, animator, and sculptor. He was known for his contributions to Czech animated film and Czech, British and Japanese puppet film, cartoon animation and theatre during the 20th century. Early life and education Štěpánek was born in Libčice nad Vltavou. He graduated at the Grammar school of Antonín Dvořák in Kralupy nad Vltavou. Městys
Městys (or, unofficially or obsolete, městečko iterally "small town", translated as " market town", is a status conferred on certain municipalities in the Czech Republic, lying in terms of size and importance higher than that of simple ''obec'' (municipality) but lower than that of ''město'' (city, town). Historically, a ''městys'' was a locality that had the right to stage livestock markets (and some other "extraordinary" and annual markets), and it is therefore translated as "market town".
