Libertyville District 70 is located in Libertyville, Illinois, about 35 miles north of Chicago in the suburbs. The district includes four elementary schools and one middle school. The elementary schools run from kindergarten through fifth grade, while the middle school consists of sixth, seventh and eighth grades. The district school year runs from mid- to late-August through early- to mid-June. District 70 is on the trimester system, uses parent-teacher conferences and also allows for student-led parent/teacher conferences. Libertyville is a village in Lake County, Illinois, United States, and a northern suburb of Chicago. It is located west of Lake Michigan on the Des Plaines River. The 2020 census population was 20,579. It is part of Libertyville Township, which includes the village, neighboring Green Oaks, and portions of Vernon Hills, Mundelein, unincorporated Waukegan and Lake Forest, and part of Knollwood CDP. Libertyville High School, or LHS, is a public four-year high school located in Libertyville, Illinois, a northern suburb of Chicago, Illinois, in the United States. Located at the intersection of Park Avenue (IL Rte 176) and Dawes Street, on the shore of Butler Lake, it is part of Community High School District 128, which also includes Vernon Hills High School. History The school was founded as Libertyville Township High School in 1917. When it first opened there were 138 students from Libertyville and the surrounding towns, and seven teachers. Community High School District 128
Community High School District 128 is located in Lake County, Illinois. The district includes Libertyville High School and Vernon Hills High School. History The Libertyville Township High School District was established in 1916; its Libertyville High School (LHS) was opened one year later. Libertyville Fremont Consolidated High School District 120 was established in 1949, but in 1963, a petition was filed to establish a high school district for the area served by LHS. The referendum was successful and LHS came under the jurisdiction of the new district and the Board of Education on July 1, 1964. The first superintendent of the new district was Walter Johnson. Under Johnson, additions to LHS's existing Butler Lake building were completed in 1971 and 1979. Johnson retired in 1980, and Dr. Donald Gossett was named superintendent.
