Liam O'Neill (Gaelic Footballer)
Liam O'Neill (born 1947) is an Irish people, Irish former Gaelic footballer who played as a right wing-back at senior level for the Galway county football team, Galway county team. O'Neill joined the team during the late 1960s and was a regular member of the starting fifteen for almost a decade. During that time he won six Connacht Senior Football Championship, Connacht medals and one GAA GPA All Stars Awards, All-Star award. He is a member of a unique set of Galway players who lost three All-Ireland finals in four years O'Neill had a lengthy club career with St Grellan's GFC, St Grellan's. He went on to manage the Mayo county football team in later years and his son Kevin played inter-county football for Mayo. St Grellan's GFC
St Grellan's Gaelic Football Club () was a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Ballinasloe, County Galway, Ireland. The team was named in honour of Saint Grellan, patron saint of Ballinasloe. St Grellan's GFC were the first club to win a record seven Galway county football titles in a row from 1913 to 1919 and were undefeated in the county championship from 1913 to 1930. In 1980, they were also the first Galway Club to reach an All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship in 1980. On 1 December 2005, St Grellan's merged with Ballinasloe Hurling Club to form Ballinasloe GAA. Galway ( ; , ) is a city in (and the county town of) County Galway. It lies on the River Corrib between Lough Corrib and Galway Bay. Connacht or Connaught ( ; or ), is the smallest of the four provinces of Ireland, situated in the west of Ireland. Until the ninth century it consisted of several independent major Gaelic kingdoms (Uí Fiachrach, Uí Briúin, Uí Maine, Conmhaícne, and Delbhna). GAA GPA All Stars Awards
The Gaelic Athletic Association-Gaelic Players' Association All Stars Awards (often known simply as the All Stars) are awarded annually to the best player in each of the 15 playing positions in Gaelic football and hurling. Additionally, one player in each code is selected as Player of the Year. The awards were instituted in 1971.
