The community of Lethbridge () is located from Clarenville, Newfoundland and Labrador along Route 230, on the Cabot Highway, to Bonavista. Route 233 and Route 234 also pass through the community. Clarenville
Clarenville is a town on the east coast of Newfoundland (island), Newfoundland in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Clarenville was incorporated in 1951. It is located in the Shoal Harbour valley, fronting an arm of the Atlantic Ocean called Random Sound. The town grew in importance after it became a junction on the Newfoundland Railway, where a branch line to the Bonavista Peninsula left the main line. The construction of the Trans-Canada Highway through the community in the 1960s resulted in it becoming a local service centre for central-eastern Newfoundland, serving 96,000 people living in 90 communities within a 100 km radius. Clarenville is centrally located and within two hours' driving time of 70% of the province's population. Joseph Roberts Smallwood (December 24, 1900 – December 17, 1991) was a Newfoundlander and Canadian politician. He was the main force who brought the Dominion of Newfoundland into Canadian Confederation in 1949, becoming the first premier of Newfoundland, serving until 1972. As premier, he vigorously promoted economic development, championed the welfare state, and emphasized modernization of education and transportation. The results of his efforts to promote industrialization were mixed, with the most favourable results in hydroelectricity, iron mining and paper mills. Smallwood was charismatic and controversial. Route 234, also known as Winter Brook Road, is a east–west highway on the island of Newfoundland in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. It is located along the Bonavista Peninsula, connecting Winter Brook with Lethbridge. Route description Route 234 begins at an intersection with Route 230 (Bonavista Peninsula Highway/Discovery Trail) in Lethbridge. It has an intersection with a local road that passes through downtown before leaving Lethbridge and heading north. The highway now has two intersections with a loop road passing through Brooklyn before passing northeast along the coastline of Goose Bay to pass through Portland.
