''Les Misérables'' (Spanish: ''Los Miserables'') is a 1943 Mexican historical drama film directed by Fernando A. Rivero and starring Domingo Soler, Manolita Saval and Antonio Bravo. It is an adaptation of Victor Hugo's 1862 novel ''Les Misérables''. Behr p.152 It was shot at the Azteca Studios in Mexico City. The film's sets were designed by the art director Manuel Fontanals. Enrique García Álvarez (actor)
Enrique García Álvarez (1896–1971) was a Spanish-Mexican actor. Early life and career García Álvarez was born in Langreo, Asturias in 1896. He began his career in 1922. In 1938, near the end of the Spanish Civil War, he fled to Paris, France, where he was helped by Maurice Chevalier, with which help he went into exile Mexico, where he would establish and live until shortly before his death. He debuted in the cinema in Mexico in 1940, where he would work with Cantinflas and Luis Buñuel in the latter's Mexican phase. He founded the magazine ''La Voz del Actor'' and received the Diosas de Plata award (from the Cinematographic Journalists of Mexico, PECIME) for his role in Buñuel's ''The Exterminating Angel'' (1962).Arjona, p. 115. Manuel Noriega (actor)
Manuel "Manolo" Noriega, (June 24, 1880 – August 12, 1961) was a Spanish-born Mexican stage and film actor, screenwriter, and film director. Born Manuel Noriega Ruiz in Colombres, Spain, he worked in live theatre for many years, performing in his native Spain as well as in Mexico, Cuba and the United States. A pioneer in silent film, he made his first screen appearance in 1907. It is believed some of his early silent films have been lost, but his main body of work began in talkies in the early 1930s, performing in close to two hundred sound films. Noriega earned an Ariel Award nomination for "Best Actor in a minor role" for his performance in the 1946 film ''Pepita Jiménez''. Married to Hortensia Castañeda Avila, their daughter Carmen became a singer who married Tito Guízar.
