Les Francos De Montréal
Les Francos de Montréal is a large annual music and performance festival held in Downtown Montreal, Quebec Quebec is Canada's List of Canadian provinces and territories by area, largest province by area. Located in Central Canada, the province shares borders with the provinces of Ontario to the west, Newfoundland and Labrador to the northeast, ..., featuring French-language performers from all over the world. Many of the performances are free to the public and are held on various stages in and around the Place des Arts section of Montreal's "Centre-ville." Other performances are held at nearby theaters and require that tickets to be purchased to attend. In contrast to the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, also held during the summer months, the Francos focuses on popular music performed chiefly in the French language or by performers from Francophone countries. Les Francofolies De La Rochelle
Les Francofolies () is the annual music festival founded in 1985 in La Rochelle, Poitou-Charentes, France as an initiative of Jean-Louis Foulquier. It is usually held annually in July and aims at promoting French-language music. Number of those attending the festival has exceeded 160,000 in 2007. Founder Jean-Louis Foulquier went on to establish Les FrancoFolies de Montréal in 1989. Jean-Louis Foulquier founder of the festival died 10 December 2013, following a long illness. Alain Simard (born 1950) is a Canadian founder, producer, and manager of music festivals. Early life and education Simard was born in Montreal, Quebec, in 1950. He attained a degree in classical studies at Collège Saint-Ignace. He began to produce underground music live shows at the college student café, La Clef, around 1969. Career In the early 1970s, Simard brought artists such as Pink Floyd, Genesis, and B. B. King to Montreal, working with Productions Kosmos. He went on to manage Quebecois musical artists Paul Piché, Offenbach, Claude Dubois, and Michel Rivard. He established TV production company Spectel-Video with Momentum Vidéofilm and in 1978 co-founded ADISQ, which supports independent music industry in Quebec, with Guy Latraverse.
