Alcest
Alcest () is a French post-black metal band from Bagnols-sur-Cèze, founded and led by Neige (Stéphane Paut). It began in 2000 as a black metal solo project by Neige, then became a trio, but members Aegnor and Argoth left the band following the 2001 release of their first demo, leaving Neige as the sole member. In 2009, drummer Winterhalter from Les Discrets joined Alcest, after eight years with Neige as its sole full-time member. Since its creation, Alcest has released seven studio albums and three EPs. Their fourth album, 2014's ''Shelter'', marked a shift towards a distinctly shoegaze sound, while their subsequent album '' Kodama'' (2016) returned to their earlier blackgaze sound. At the same time, Peste Noire bandleader Famine was also the lead guitarist on the first Alcest demo, ''Tristesse hivernale''. Birgir Jón Birgisson
Sundlaugin (, ''the swimming pool'') is a recording studio located near Álafoss in the town of Mosfellsbær in Iceland known for being the recording and rehearsal location of post-rock band Sigur Rós. The location was originally a swimming pool built in the 1930s which had been abandoned when Sigur Rós purchased it in 1999 and converted it and adjacent buildings into a studio. The band originally intended to record their third album, titled '' ( )'', in an abandoned NATO tracking base in the northernmost mountain in Iceland, but after inspection decided it was too impractical. Shortly after they found the abandoned pool lot in a rural neighborhood in Mosfellsbær. They bought the lot and transformed it into a studio. In order to fit the massive mixing console into the building, part of the roof was opened up and the console was lowered with a crane. Much of the band's photography and artwork is taken from the surrounding landscape, such as the art found on the first album rec ...

Les Voyages De L'âme
''Les Voyages de l'âme'' () is the third studio album by French blackgaze band Alcest, released on January 6, 2012, by Prophecy Productions. An edited version of the song "Autre temps" was released as a single alongside an accompanying music video. The album was described as a musical synthesis of the previous two albums, blending shoegaze, post-rock, and black metal influences. Writing and musical style ''The New York Times'' described the album's sound as "a kind of slow, pretty, gauzy metal, with highly managed guitar distortion, cathedral reverb and high, clear voices, except for when Neige sings in a barbed scream." AllMusic's Thom Jurek described the album as combining "black metal's buzz, gorgeous shoegaze melodies, ambient soundscapes, and post rock feedback", and as a synthesis of the styles of the previous two albums. He also notes that the aggressive elements are employed in a "celebratory manner", and that with the use of harsh, screamed vocals, "the melodic beauty of ...

Pitchfork (magazine)
''Pitchfork'' (formerly ''Pitchfork Media'') is an American online music magazine founded in 1996 by Ryan Schreiber in Minneapolis. It originally covered alternative and independent music, and expanded to cover genres including pop, hip-hop, jazz and metal. ''Pitchfork'' is one of the most influential music publications to have emerged in the internet age. In the 2000s, ''Pitchfork'' distinguished itself from print media through its unusual editorial style, frequent updates and coverage of emerging acts. It was praised as passionate, authentic and unique, but criticized as pretentious, mean-spirited and elitist, playing into stereotypes of the cynical hipster. It is credited with popularizing acts such as Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, Bon Iver and Sufjan Stevens. ''Pitchfork'' relocated to Chicago in 1999 and Brooklyn, New York, in 2011. It expanded with projects including the annual Pitchfork Music Festival (launched in Chicago in 2006), the video site ''Pitchfork.tv ...

Jesu (band)
Jesu (pronounced ''"yay-zoo"'') are a British experimental metal band formed in 2003 by Justin Broadrick following the breakup of his band Godflesh. It shares its name with the last song on ''Hymns (Godflesh album), Hymns'', the final album of Godflesh's initial run. Jesu's sound is heavily layered and textured, incorporating a diverse mix of influences. Broadrick himself has stated that "...it's very loosely speaking pop/rock/heavy metal music, metal/electronica ... I'm intentionally writing what I consider to be coherent 'pop' songs". Biography 2004–2008 Jesu's first release, the ''Heart Ache'' EP, was released in 2004 and featured Broadrick performing all of the instruments and vocals alone. It was followed four months later by the full-length Jesu (album), ''Jesu'' LP, which featured contributions from bassist Diarmuid Dalton and drummer Ted Parsons on select tracks. My Bloody Valentine (band)
My Bloody Valentine are an Irish rock band formed in Dublin in 1983 and consisting of founding members Kevin Shields (vocals, guitar, sampler) and Colm Ó Cíosóig (drums, sampler), with Bilinda Butcher (vocals, guitar) and Debbie Googe (bass). Their work is characterized by distorted guitar textures, subdued androgynous vocals, and unorthodox production techniques. They are widely cited as a pioneering act in the shoegaze genre. Following several unsuccessful early releases and membership changes, My Bloody Valentine signed to Creation Records in 1988. The band released several successful EPs and the albums '' Isn't Anything'' (1988) and ''Loveless'' (1991) on the label; the latter is often described as their magnum opus. However, My Bloody Valentine were dropped by Creation after its release due to the album's extensive production costs. In 1992, the band signed to Island Records and recorded several albums worth of unreleased material, remaining largely inactive. Googe ...

Souvenirs D'un Autre Monde
''Souvenirs d'un autre monde'' () is the debut studio album by French post-black metal band Alcest, released in 8 August 2007. The title refers to the meaning behind the music of Alcest, as its leader and songwriter, Neige, sees it as a journey through his memories of a distant world he has been in contact with. Although it is representative of future works, the album differs notably from Alcest's first EP '' Le Secret'' (2005), distancing from Alcest's original sound, and delving into a post-metal and shoegaze-influenced direction while maintaining black metal elements in the music. It is the last release in which Neige plays all instruments, as drummer Winterhalter joined him on subsequent releases. Reception ''Souvenirs d'un autre monde'' received generally positive reviews. Brian Way of AllMusic lauded the emotional aspect of the album, stating it expressed "yearning, nostalgia, triumph, and blissful peace, all without a single lyric in (discernible) English". Many reviewer ...
