Leopold is the modern form of the Germanic languages, Germanic name ''Luitbald'', composed of two stems, common to Germanic names. The first part is related to Old High German ''wikt:liut, liut'' meaning "people", the second part ''wikt:bald, bald'' or ''wikt:balt, balt'' is of Germanic origin and means "brave". The name is not related to the names Leon (given name), Leon and Leonard which mean lion. ''Leopold the Cat'' (, ''Kot Leopold'') is a Soviet animated short film series about a good-natured and prudent cat, Leopold. Leopold always wears a bow tie even when swimming. Throughout the series, he has to deal with two mischievous mice, Grey and White (Mitya and Motya according to an early script version, but the cartoons themselves mention no names). The animation was produced at T/O Ekran in 1975–1987 and its runtime is 87 minutes (10 episodes). As of 1987, there were 11 episodes in total. In 1995, most of the episodes were released on tape. It was directed by Anatoly Reznikov (), and the screenplay was written by Arkady Khait. Boris Savelyev wrote the music. Leopold is an unincorporated community in eastern Bollinger County in Southeast Missouri, United States. It is located on Missouri Route N, approximately four miles southeast of Marble Hill. USS ''Leopold'' (DE-319) was an built for the United States Navy during World War II. Named for Ensign Robert Lawrence Leopold to date it is the only United States Navy vessel to bear the name. Namesake Robert Lawrence Leopold was born on 11 November 1916 in Louisville, Kentucky. He enlisted in the Naval Reserve 10 July 1940. Following training in Wyoming, he was appointed midshipman on 16 September 1940 and commissioned Ensign on 12 December. The Leopold Cafe and Bar is a restaurant and bar on Colaba Causeway, in Colaba area of Mumbai, India, located across from the Colaba Police station. It was one of the first sites attacked in the 2008 Mumbai attacks. History The Leopold Cafe was founded in 1871 by Iranis (a term used for Zoroastrians in Mumbai who arrived in India in the 19th century, as opposed to "Parsis") and named after King Leopold of the Belgians. The Wunaamin Miliwundi Ranges (between 1879 and 2020 known as the King Leopold Ranges) are a range of hills in the western Kimberley region of Western Australia. There are two conservation parks within the ranges, the Wunaamin Conservation Park (in Wilinggin land) and Miluwindi Conservation Park (in Bunuba land), both formerly part of the King Leopold Ranges Conservation Park. Leopold is a small unincorporated community and Census-designated place in Leopold Township, Perry County, in the U.S. state of Indiana.
