Lennoxtown railway station served the town of Lennoxtown, Dunbartonshire, Scotland from 1867 to 1951 on the Blane Valley Railway. History The station opened as Lennoxtown Blane Valley on 1 July 1867 as Lennoxtown by the North British Railway The North British Railway was one of the two biggest of the five major Scottish railway companies prior to the 1923 Grouping. It was established in 1844, with the intention of linking with English railways at Berwick. The line opened in 1846, .... A second platform was going to be added but a loop was laid instead; this was later lifted. There were no goods facilities here as they were at the old station. The station's name was changed to Lennoxtown on 1 October 1881. It closed on 1 October 1951. Lennoxtown (, ) is a town in the East Dunbartonshire council area and the historic county of Stirlingshire, Scotland. The Campsie Fells are located to Lennoxtown's north. The town had a population of 4,094 at the 2011 UK census. History The Lennoxtown area was centered around Lennox Mill in the past. It was a bustling location where tenants of the Woodhead estate used to bring their corn for grinding. Numerous corn mills existed in the area, including Lennox Mill which was situated near the now since-demolished Kali Nail Works. North British Railway
The North British Railway was one of the two biggest of the five major Scottish railway companies prior to the 1923 Grouping. It was established in 1844, with the intention of linking with English railways at Berwick. The line opened in 1846, and from the outset the company followed a policy of expanding its geographical area, and competing with the Caledonian Railway in particular. In doing so it committed huge sums of money, and incurred shareholder disapproval that resulted in two chairmen leaving the company. Nonetheless, the company successfully reached Carlisle, where it later made a partnership with the Midland Railway. It also linked from Edinburgh to Perth and Dundee, but for many years the journey involved a Train ferry, ferry crossing of the Forth and the Tay. Blane Valley Railway
The Blane Valley Railway was a railway line in Scotland to the east of Glasgow. It is now closed.
