The Leitrim County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) () or Leitrim GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Leitrim. The county board is also responsible for the Leitrim inter-county teams. The county football team play in the Connacht Senior Football Championship and compete in Division 3 of the National Football League. Considered "Connacht's traditional minnows" and "one of the GAA's Cinderella counties", Leitrim are never seriously seen as likely to win a major title. Sligo GAA
The Sligo County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) () or Sligo GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Sligo. The county board is also responsible for the Sligo county teams. The county football team plays in the Connacht Senior Football Championship but has only won three senior provincial titles, in 1928, 1975 and 2007. Sligo has never appeared in an All-Ireland final. The 1922 Championship is the closest it has come, defeating Roscommon, Mayo and Galway to win the Connacht title, and beating Tipperary in the subsequent All-Ireland semi-final that followed. FBD Insurance League
The FBD, also called the FBD Insurance League, FBD Connacht League, the Connacht FBD Football League or FBD Insurance Connacht GAA Senior Football Competition, is an annual Gaelic football competition organised by Connacht GAA and sponsored by FBD Holdings, FBD. The participants are the five county teams. Formerly several third-level college teams also competed, but from 2018 onward it became an all-county-team tournament. In 2019 and 2020 it was a knockout tournament with no league element, and so it was called the "Connacht GAA Senior Football Competition"; in 2023 and 2024 it was simply referred to as "the FBD." Declan Darcy
Declan Darcy (Irish: ''Déaglán Ó Dorchaí'') is a former Gaelic footballer who played for the Leitrim and Dublin county teams. He captained Leitrim to the 1994 Connacht Senior Football Championship, he also won a Connacht Under-21 Football Championship in 1991. He won Leitrim Senior Football Championship titles in 1989, 1992, 1993, 1994 with Aughawillian and also played with St. Brigids GAA Club in Dublin. He won a Dublin Senior Club Championship and Leinster Senior Club Championship with St. Brigids in 2003. He served as a selector of the Dublin under-21 football team for the 2009 championship season. The 1994 Bank of Ireland All-Ireland Senior Football Championship was the 108th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county Gaelic football tournament. The championship began on 15 May 1994 and ended on 18 September 1994. Derry entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were defeated by Down in the Ulster quarter-final in what is regarded as one of the greatest games of all time. On 18 September 1994, Down won the championship following a 1–12 to 0–13 defeat of Dublin in the All-Ireland final. John O'Mahony (Mayo Politician)
John Christopher O'Mahony (8 June 1953 – 6 July 2024) was an Irish Gaelic football manager and Fine Gael politician who served as a Senator from 2016 to 2020, after being nominated by the Taoiseach. He was a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Mayo constituency from 2007 to 2016. Early and personal life O'Mahony was a native of Kilmovee, County Mayo. He was a graduate of University College Galway. He taught for many years at St Nathy's College, Ballaghaderreen, County Roscommon. O'Mahony was married to Gerardine Towey; together, they had five daughters. O'Mahony died in Galway on 6 July 2024, after being diagnosed with cancer in later years. He was 71 years old. Sports career O'Mahony managed several county teams in Gaelic football.
