''Le Médecin malgré lui'' (; "The doctor/physician in spite of himself") is a farce by Molière first presented in 1666 (published as a manuscript in early 1667) at le Théâtre du Palais-Royal (rue Saint-Honoré), théâtre du Palais-Royal by la Troupe du Roi. The play is one of several plays by Molière to center on Sganarelle, a character that Molière himself portrayed, and is a comedic satire of 17th century France, French medicine. The music composed by Marc-Antoine Charpentier is lost. The play initially focuses on Sganarelle, an impoverished Lumberjack, woodcutter (logger, timber cutter) who is both alcoholic and Gluttony, gluttonous. Émile Chautard (7 September 1864 – 24 April 1934) was a French-American film director, actor, and screenwriter, most active in the silent era. He directed more than 100 films between 1910 and 1924. ''Lux Summer Theatre'' is a CBS Radio (Columbia Broadcasting System) anthology series which ran during the summer of 1953 in the ''Lux Radio Theatre's'' regular one-hour timeslot. Fourteen episodes aired from June through August of that year. This weekly series differed from its parent show in several ways, starting with it being the first version of ''Lux Radio Theatre'' since 1936 to air during the summer. Norman Macdonnell was brought in from the ''Gunsmoke'' radio series to take on the job of director-producer. Ernest Kinoy (April 1, 1925 – November 10, 2014) was an American writer, screenwriter and playwright. Early life Kinoy was born in New York City on April 1, 1925; his parents, Albert and Sarah Kinoy (formerly Forstadt), were both high-school teachers. His older brother Arthur Kinoy later became a leading constitutional lawyer. Kinoy attended the Ethical Culture Fieldston School and later Columbia University, although his studies were interrupted by military service during World War II. During his army service with the 106th Infantry Division, Kinoy was made a prisoner of war, and was interned at the Stalag IX-B camp but, as a Jewish POW, was subsequently sent to the slave labor camp at Berga. Stanley John Sadie (; 30 October 1930 – 21 March 2005) was a British musicologist, music critic, and editor. He was editor of the sixth edition of the '' Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians'' (1980), which was published as the first edition of ''The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians''. (''The Doctor in spite of himself''; sometimes also called ''The Mock Doctor'') is an opéra comique in three acts by Charles Gounod to a libretto by Jules Barbier and Michel Carré after Molière's Le Médecin malgré lui, play of the same name. The work premiered at the Théâtre Lyrique in Paris on 15 January 1858. Performance history As the work uses spoken dialogue and verse taken directly from Molière's play, the Comédie-Française tried unsuccessfully to block performance of the opera. It was revived at the Opéra-Comique in 1872, 1886, 1902 and 1938; was seen in Hamburg, Stockholm and Warsaw in 1862; and in England between 1865 and 1891. On 25 November 1978 the opera received its 100th performance at the Opéra-Comique, conducted by Sylvain Cambreling and with Jean-Philippe Lafont, Jocelyne Taillon and Jules Bastin among the cast. Michel Carré
Michel Carré (; 20 October 1821, Besançon – 27 June 1872, Argenteuil) was a prolific French librettist. He went to Paris in 1840 intending to become a painter but took up writing instead. He wrote verse and plays before turning to writing libretti. He wrote the text for Charles Gounod's '' Mireille'' (1864) on his own, and collaborated with Eugène Cormon on Bizet's '' Les pêcheurs de perles''.
