Le Touquet–Côte D'Opale Airport
Le Touquet–Elizabeth II Airport (; ) is east-southeast of Le Touquet, a commune of the Pas-de-Calais department on the coast of northern France. Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022, the airport was renamed in her honour. The passenger terminal is open 09:00–20:00. There are three flying clubs and most of them also give flying lessons; two of them are helicopter schools and clubs. Le Touquet-Paris-Plage (, Picard language, Picard: ''Ech Toutchet-Paris-Plache''), commonly referred to as Le Touquet (), is a Communes of France, commune near Étaples, in the Pas-de-Calais Departments of France, department, northern France. It has a permanent population of 4,213 (2021), but it welcomes up to 250,000 people during the summer, so the population at any given time during high season in summer swells to about 30,000. Aer Lingus Flight 164 was a scheduled Boeing 737 passenger flight that was hijacked on 2 May 1981, en route from Dublin in Ireland to London Heathrow in England. Hijacking While on approach to Heathrow, about five minutes before the flight was due to land in England, a 55-year-old Australian man named Laurence James Downey went into the aircraft lavatory and doused himself in petrol, a highly flammable liquid.
