Laurier Golden Hawks Men's Ice Hockey
The Laurier Golden Hawks men's ice hockey team (formerly the Waterloo Ice Mules and Waterloo Lutheran Golden Hawks) is an active ice hockey program representing the Laurier Golden Hawks athletic department of Wilfrid Laurier University. The team has been continually active since the early 1960s and is currently a member of the Ontario University Athletics conference under the authority of U Sports. The Golden Hawks play at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex in Waterloo, Ontario. History Waterloo The first appearance for the Waterloo Ice Mules hockey team appears to be in the 1933–34 OHA Intermediate Groups. Laurier Golden Hawks
The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks, commonly shortened to Laurier Golden Hawks, is the name used by the varsity sports teams of Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. The university's varsity teams compete in the Ontario University Athletics conference of U Sports and, where applicable, in the west division. Varsity teams While technically not considered a varsity team, Wilfred Laurier has a university ringette team which competes annually in the Canadian national University Challenge Cup. McMaster Marauders Men's Ice Hockey
The McMaster Marauders men's ice hockey team (formerly the McMaster Marlins) was an ice hockey team representing the McMaster Marauders athletics program of McMaster University. McMaster previous fielded a team off-and-on for over 80 years, winning the inaugural University Cup in 1963. History McMaster began its ice hockey program in 1902, playing first at the intermediate level. The team remained in the second tier of Canadian college hockey for several years but saw little success. After returning following the end of World War I, McMaster found itself mired at the bottom of the standings and decided to change tack. In 1920, the school decided to field a junior team in the Ontario Hockey Association. After the 20-and-under team went winless, the school abandoned the idea and then left the IIS for the Intermediate Groups. The Toronto Varsity Blues men's ice hockey team is an ice hockey team operated by the Toronto Varsity Blues, Varsity Blues athletics program of the University of Toronto. They are members of the Ontario University Athletics conference and compete in U Sports. The Varsity Blues senior team won the Allan Cup in 1921 and 1927, and won the gold medal for Canada at the 1928 Winter Olympics. The Western Mustangs men's ice hockey team represents Western University (in full, The University of Western Ontario) in Canadian university competition. The Ontario University Athletic Association ice hockey tournament was an annual conference championship held between member teams. History After the realignment of the Quebec–Ontario Athletic Association, Ontario Intercollegiate Athletic Association and Ottawa-St. Lawrence Conference in 1971, the Ontario University Athletic Association was born. The league began with 14 teams arranged into four divisions .The inaugural postseason tournament invited eight teams with the top four from each division automatically qualifying for the playoffs. The quarterfinal matches were all played within the same division while the semifinals were played cross-division. The Laurentian Voyageurs men's ice hockey team was an ice hockey program representing the Laurentian Voyageurs athletic department of Laurentian University. The team played for approximately 45 years before the 2021 Laurentian University financial crisis necessitated the termination of several athletic programs, including the ice hockey teams. The Ontario Intercollegiate Athletic Association ice hockey tournament was an annual conference championship held between member teams. History With college hockey expanding in Canada throughout the 1950s, many colleges in Ontario were looking to establish themselves but faced a difficult challenge. The major programs of the day would not have given their newer, smaller counterparts much room with which to grow. An intermediate league, the Ottawa–St. Lawrence Conference, had already been formed but many other programs did not want to take on the expense of travelling several hundred miles for second-tier collegiate games. By 1958, enough programs were operating in southern Ontario to form a new intermediate league.
