The show is the second installment of the ''Late Night (franchise), Late Night'' franchise originally established by David Letterman. After doing stand-up comedy for years, he became the host of NBC's ''The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Tonight Show'' from 1992 until 2009 when Conan O'Brien took over as host. Max Weinberg (born April 13, 1951) is an American drummer and television personality, most widely known as the longtime drummer for Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band and as the bandleader for Conan O'Brien on ''Late Night with Conan O'Brien'' and ''The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien''. He is the father of former Slipknot (band), Slipknot drummer Jay Weinberg. Weinberg grew up in suburban New Jersey and began drumming at an early age.
