Lasalle & Koch Co. or Lasalle's was a department store in Toledo, Ohio, with branches in some nearby communities. History Lasalle's traces its beginnings to a store opened in 1865 by Jacob Lasalle and Joseph Epstein, at 51 Summit Street. In 1883, Joseph Koch joined the business, which relocated to a new store at the corner of Summit and Adams Streets. In 1900, the Lasalle & Koch Co. opened a new store at the corner of Jefferson Avenue and Superior Street. This store was enlarged several times, and in 1916, ground was broken for a new store at Adams and Huron Streets. The Lasalle & Koch Co. opened its flagship downtown Toledo store at 513 Adams Street in 1917. The company was purchased by R.H. Macy Co. in 1923. In November 1927, Lasalle & Koch Co. completed the addition of three upper floors, and to celebrate, commissioned mural artist Arthur Covey to create a series of paintings about Toledo-area industries which were exhibited in the store's display windows. Antoine-Charles-Louis, Comte de Lasalle (; 10 May 17756 July 1809) was a French cavalry general during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. Often called "The Hussar General," he first gained fame for his role in the Capitulation of Stettin. Throughout his short career, he became known as a daring adventurer and was credited with many exploits, fighting on every front. He was killed at the Battle of Wagram. Early career Antoine Lasalle was born on 10 May 1775 in Metz, Lorraine province, into a family of minor nobility. His father was Pierre Nicolas de Lasalle d’Augny, an officer in the French Royal Army and a knight of the Order of Saint Louis. His mother was Suzanne Dupuy de la Gaule, a descendant of Abraham de Fabert, a Marshal of France. Macy's Midwest was a former American division of Macy's, Inc. based in St. Louis, Missouri. It had operations in New York, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. In 2008, Macy's Midwest division merged with Macy's South to form Macy's Central. North Towne Square
NorthTowne Square, briefly known as Lakeside Centre, was a shopping mall in Toledo, Ohio developed by Simon Property Group. The three-anchor tenant mall opened in 1981 near the Ohio-Michigan border in anticipation of a home construction boom on the Michigan side, but faced serious business problems by the early 2000s. Simon put the mall up for sale in 1999 and sold the property in 2002. The mall closed in 2005, city government acquired the building in 2011 and demolished it in 2013. In 2021, the City of Toledo announced the site would be sold to NorthPoint Development with intentions to build a $70 million industrial park with a spring 2022 groundbreaking. Woodville Mall
Woodville Mall was an enclosed shopping mall off of Woodville Road ( State Route 51) in Northwood, Ohio, outside the city of Toledo, Ohio. The mall opened in 1969 and, after losing most of its stores in the 2000s, became a dead mall. The mall's interior was closed in December 2011 and demolished in March 2014. History The DeBartolo Corporation built Woodville Mall in 1969. A portion opened in April of that year, and the rest of the mall opened by year's end. At the time of opening, it had three anchor stores: JCPenney, Sears and Lasalle's. Within two years, a new shopping mall on the northwest side of Toledo, the Franklin Park Mall (1971) began competing with Woodville Mall, taking away its status as Toledo's sole enclosed shopping mall. Franklin Park Mall is a super-regional shopping mall in Toledo, Ohio. It is anchored by Dillard's, JCPenney, Dick's Sporting Goods, and DSW. There are two vacant anchor stores formerly occupied by Macy's and Forever 21, both of which closed in early 2025. History Developed by The Rouse Company, the mall opened on July 22, 1971, occupying the former site of the Franklin Airport. The mall was built using the Syncon modular building subsystems for an estimated savings of $500,000. When the mall opened, its original anchor stores were Hudson's, J. C. Penney, and local department store Lamson Brothers. The mall comprised about 75 stores in of floor space, with the J. C. Penney anchor being one of the largest in the chain at the time.
