The House of Lannoy is the name of an old and important Belgian nobility, Belgian noble family that takes its name from the town of Lannoy, Nord, Lannoy in northern France. The name comes from ''l'Annoy'' (or ''l'Annoit'', from Latin ''alnetum''), which means 'the alderwood' in Picard French of French Flanders, Flanders. History The oldest known ancestor is Gillion de l'Annoit, who lived in the 13th century. Many of his descendants were members of the Order of the Golden Fleece. The national flag of the Kingdom of Belgium is a Tricolour (flag), tricolour consisting of three equal vertical bands displaying the national colours: black, yellow, and red. The colours were taken from the coat of arms of the Duchy of Brabant, and the vertical design may be based on the flag of France. When flown, the black band is nearest the pole (at the hoist side). Claude Bouton, Lord of Corbaron (c. 1473 - 30 June 1556) was a courtier, poet, and diplomat for the House of Habsburg. He was mainly based in Belgium. Hugo van Lannoy ( French: 'Hue' or 'Hugues de Lannoy'; 1384 – 1 May 1456), Lord of Santes, was a Flemish statesman in the service of the Dukes of Burgundy, most notably Philip III who founded the Order of the Golden Fleece.
