Hotel Lafayette, also known as the Lafayette Hotel, is a historic hotel building located in Buffalo, New York, Buffalo in Erie County, New York. History and features It is a seven-story steel frame and concrete building designed in the French Renaissance architecture, French Renaissance style. It is composed of several rectangular building units completed between 1902 and 1926. It features decorative vitreous red brick and white terra cotta trim. The hotel is the masterpiece of Louise Blanchard Bethune (1856–1913), the first professional woman architect in the United States. The original building was designed by the firm of Bethune, Bethune & Fuchs and built between 1902 and 1911. Additions from 1916–1917 and 1924–1926 were completed by James A. Johnson (architect), Esenwein and Johnson. The lobby was decorated in 1942 in the Streamline Moderne, Art Moderne style. Hotel Lafayette (New York City)
Hotel Lafayette (formerly Hotel Martin) was a hotel located on University Place in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. It was founded by Raymond Orteig in 1902. The hotel was particularly known for its restaurant, the Café Lafayette, and drew its clientele from New York's French expatriates and the bohemians of Greenwich Village. John Reed described the hotel as "the real link between the old Village and the new, since it was the cradle of artistic life in New York." After Orteig's retirement in 1929, the 65-room hotel and its restaurant were run by his sons until its closure in 1949. The building was demolished in the late 1950s. History The Hotel Lafayette began its life as Hotel Martin. In 1883 Jean-Baptiste Martin, who had previously run a hotel in Panama bought a small pension on University Place run by Eugene Larru and opened it under the name Hotel de Panama. The Lafayette Hotel and Club is a hotel in San Diego, California, United States, that opened . It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on . The Lafayette's original name was Imig Manor, owned by local entrepreneur Larry Imig. It was originally built at a cost of $2 million on El Cajon Boulevard. When Imig Manor opened in 1946, its first guest was Bob Hope; other celebrities followed. “The buildings and the pool are steeped in the history of Hollywood’s heyday, the 1940s and ’50s,” according to the developer. By 1960, Interstate 8 replaced El Cajon Boulevard as the main east-west connector of San Diego, and hotel operations ceased due to the loss of through traffic on El Cajon Boulevard. The building was passed through several owners, until Hampstead Lafayette Partners purchased in North Park, including the Lafayette Hotel, for $11.5 million in March 2004.
