Lady Windermere's Fan (1925 Film)
''Lady Windermere's Fan'' is a 1925 American silent drama film directed by Ernst Lubitsch. It is based on Oscar Wilde's 1892 play ''Lady Windermere's Fan'', which was first played in America by Julia Arthur as Lady Windermere and Maurice Barrymore as Lord Darlington. The film is preserved in multiple archives. It was transferred to 16mm film by Associated Artists Productions in the 1950s for television. In 2002, it was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." The ''Treasures from American Film Archives'' series of DVDs is produced by the National Film Preservation Foundation (NFPF), a nonprofit organization created by the U.S. Congress in 1997. Helen Dunbar (born Katheryn Burke Lackey; October 10, 1863 – August 28, 1933) was an American theatrical performer and silent film actress. Billie Bennett (October 23, 1874 – May 19, 1951) was an American film actress of the silent era. She appeared in more than 50 films between 1913 and 1930. She was born in Evansville, Indiana, and died in Los Angeles, California. Author E. J. Fleming writing in his 2004 book, ''The Fixers: Eddie Mannix, Howard Strickling and the MGM Publicity Machine'', states that when she ceased making films at the end of the silent era, she ran a high class bordello in an exclusive part of the Los Angeles area. Bennett's girls were made up to look like movie stars of the period, even undergoing surgical alterations to achieve the illusion. Carrie Daumery
Carrie Daumery (25 March 1863 – 1 July 1938) was a Belgian-born American film actress. She appeared in more than 60 films between 1908 and 1937. Personal life Daumery was the sister in law of violinist Eugène Ysaÿe. She was also the widow of Belgian pianist Theo Ysaye and the mother of film director John Daumery. Daumery and her husband were traveling in Switzerland when World War I began; when they returned to Belgium, they discovered German soldiers occupying their home. Subsequently, their son fought in the war, and her husband's health failed. When the war ended, Daumery's husband was dead, and her son was recovering from poison gas and wounds. Edward Martindel (July 8, 1876 – May 4, 1955) was an American stage and film actor who appeared on Broadway theatre, Broadway and in more than 80 films between 1915 and 1946. Born in Hamilton, Ohio, he was the son of Dr. and Mrs. Frank Martindell. His singing debut came under the management of Henry Wilson Savage, Henry Savage.
