In Australian politics, a Labor–Greens coalition or a red–green coalition is a coalition agreement between two parties: the centre-left, socially democratic Australian Labor Party and the left-wing, progressive Australian Greens. These agreements have occurred at both the state and territory level and in some local councils. The Labor–Greens coalition was a political alliance between the Labor Party and the Greens in the Australian Capital Territory Legislative Assembly. The coalition was founded in 2012 but was dissolved after the 2024 election, with the Greens moving to the crossbench. Unlike what generally happens with the Liberal–National Coalition, Labor and the Greens contest ACT elections on separate tickets. The Labor–Green Accord was a 1989 political agreement between the Labor Party and the Tasmanian Greens (then called the Green Independents) to form government in the Australian state of Tasmania after the 1989 general election had resulted in a hung parliament. 1989 Tasmanian election The election took place on 13 May 1989.
