Román Rodríguez Rodríguez (born 1 March 1956) is a Canarian politician who was the president of the Canary Islands between 1999 and 2003. He was licensed in medicine at the University of La Laguna. He worked as a medical assistant for one year and as a university professor. During the 1980s, he took part in antimilitarist and social movements. In 1991, he joined Iniciativa Canaria (ICAN), an organization which in 1993 merged with the Canarian Coalition (CC). He was director general of the Sanitary Assistance between 1993 and 1995. In 1995, he was elected as general director of the Canarian Health Service. In the 2004 general election, he represented the Canarian Coalition. Tejeda is a village and a municipality in the mountainous central part of the island of Gran Canaria in the province of Las Palmas in the Canary Islands. Fiesta del Charco (or Embarbascá) is a festive tradition, with centuries of history, that takes place in the municipality of La Aldea de San Nicolás on the island of Gran Canaria, every September 11 to celebrate the patron saint festivities of San Nicholas of Tolentino. It is one of the important, popular and multitudinous festivals celebrated in the Canary Islands. Origin The Fiesta del Charco tries to represent and pay homage to the way of life of the Canarian ancestors. Nicholas of Tolentino, OSA (, c. 1246September 10, 1305) known as the "Patron of Holy Souls", was an Italian Catholic Christian mysticism, mystic who is invoked as an advocate for the souls in Purgatory, especially during Lent and the month of November. He was a member of the Order of Saint Augustine, Augustinians, whose churches today, together with those of the Discalced Augustinians, hold weekly devotions to St. Nicholas on behalf of the suffering souls.
