L'Islet (provincial Electoral District)
L'Islet was a provincial electoral district in the province of Quebec, Canada. It was created for the 1867 election (and an electoral district of that name existed earlier in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada and the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada). Its final election was in 1970. It disappeared in the 1973 election and its successor electoral district was Montmagny-L'Islet. Charles Marcotte
Charles Marcotte (November 1, 1844 – September 20, 1901) was a notary and political figure in Quebec. He represented L'Islet in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1881 to 1886 as a Conservative. He was born in Cap-Santé, Canada East, the son of Félix Marcotte and Marie Delage. Marcotte was educated at the Séminaire de Québec and qualified as a notary in 1865, setting up practice at L'Islet and then Deschambault. He was secretary for the school board at L'Islet from 1870 to 1882. André Rousseau
André Rousseau, (January 12, 1911 – September 17, 2002), was an entrepreneur and politician in Quebec. He was the first to occupy the position of Minister of Industry and Commerce from July 5, 1960, to December 5, 1962, under the first Government of Jean Lesage. In 1950, Rousseau also founded Rousseau Metal inc., a Quebec company that is specialized in the manufacturing of storage systems. Fernand Lizotte (March 4, 1904 – August 28, 1996) was a Canadian politician and a five-term Member of the Legislative Assembly of Quebec. Union Nationale (Quebec)
The Union nationale () was a conservative and nationalist provincial political party in Quebec, Canada, that identified with Québécois autonomism. It was created during the Great Depression and held power in Quebec from 1936 to 1939, and from 1944 to 1960 and from 1966 to 1970. The party was founded by Maurice Duplessis, who led it until his death in 1959. The party was often referred to in English as the National Union, especially when it was still an electoral force, by both the media and, at times, the party. Adélard Godbout
Joseph-Adélard Godbout (September 24, 1892 – September 18, 1956) was a Canadian agronomist and politician. He served as the 15th premier of Quebec briefly in 1936, and again from 1939 to 1944. He served as leader of the Parti Libéral du Québec (PLQ). Youth and early career Adélard Godbout was born in Saint-Éloi.
