Kapu (Hawaiian Culture)
''Kapu'' is the ancient Hawaiian code of conduct of laws and regulations. The ''kapu'' system was universal in lifestyle, gender roles, politics and religion. An offense that was ''kapu'' was often a capital offense, but also often denoted a threat to spiritual power, or theft of ''mana''. ''Kapus'' were strictly enforced. Breaking one, even unintentionally, often meant immediate death, ''Koʻo kapu''. The concept is related to taboo and the '' tapu'' or ''tabu'' found in other Polynesian cultures. The Hawaiian word ''kapu'' is usually translated to English as "forbidden", though it also carries the meanings of "keep out", "no trespassing", "sacred", "consecrated", or "holy". The opposite of kapu is ''noa'', meaning "common" or "free". Kapu (caste)
Kapu refers to a social grouping of agriculturists found primarily in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Kapus are primarily an agrarian community, forming a heterogeneous peasant caste. They are classified as a Forward caste in Andhra Pradesh, where they are the dominant community in the districts of East Godavari and West Godavari. They are distinct from three other Kapu communities that were present in the state prior to its bifurcation with the creation of Telangana in 2014. The Munnuru Kapu are found primarily in Telangana, the Turpu Kapu in the areas of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam, and the Balija in Rayalaseema. Kapu, Karnataka
Kapu was renamed ''Kaup'' by the British. Kapu (''Kaup'') is a town situated in the Udupi district of Karnataka, India. It lies between the twin cities of Udupi and Mangalore, next to the National Highway 66. The villages Manchakal and Shirva are located near Kapu. It is 13 km south of Udupi and 40 km north of Mangalore. It is known for its lighthouse, the three Mariamman shrines, and the Kapu fort built by Tippu Sultan. Kapu was declared a taluk of the Udupi district by the Government of Karnataka. Kapu Rajaiah
Kapu Rajaiah (7 April 1925 – 20 August 2012) was an Indian painter. He was well known for his depiction of country life paintings, and his works were displayed around the world. He was the founder of Lalita Kala Samithi in 1963, whose extension was inaugurated at Kala Bhavan. Life Rajaiah was born in Siddipet, Medak, into a poor family. He completed a diploma at the Government School of Art in Hyderabad. His works of Nakashi art had themes such as Vaddera mahila, Yellamma Jogi, Gopika Krishna, Panta Polaalu, Vasantha Keli, Kolatam, Toddy Tappers, Bonalu, and Bathukamma.
