Kysuce Dialect
Kysuce is a traditional informal name of a region in north-western Slovakia, situated around the Kysuca river and bordering the Orava region in the east, Poland in the north and the Czech Republic in the west. It consists of two districts: Čadca and Kysucké Nové Mesto. The northern part is called the Čadecké region and is part of the Goral Lands. The region is surrounded by the numerous mountain ranges, for example Javorníky with the highest hill Veľký Javorník (1,071 m) in the west, the Moravian-Silesian Beskids with the highest hill Veľký Polom (1,067 m) in the north. In the East there are Kysucké Beskydy with the highest mountain (also the highest in the region) – Veľká Rača (1,236 m) – the symbol of Kysuce. In the South there is Kysucká vrchovina with the highest hill – Ľadonhora (999 m). Turzovka
Turzovka () is a town in the Čadca District, Žilina Region in north-western Slovakia. History The present-day town was established in 1598 by a palatine of the Thurzó family. It gained town status in 1968. This town became well known by the Marian apparitions reported by Matúš Lašut between 1958 and 1962. The town museum was established on October 1, 2015. Svrčinovec
Svrčinovec (, until 1899 ) is a village and municipality in Čadca District in the Žilina Region of northern Slovakia. History In historical records the village was first mentioned in 1658. In November 1938, the village was annexed by the Polish Army, in wake of the annexation of Trans-Olza region to the Second Polish Republic. Kalinov, Medzilaborce
Kalinov (; ) is a village and municipality in the Medzilaborce District in the Prešov Region of far north-eastern Slovakia. History In historical records the village was first mentioned in 1596 and 1604. Before the establishment of independent Czechoslovakia in 1918, it was part of Zemplén County within the Kingdom of Hungary. From 1939 to 1944, it was part of the Slovak Republic, a client state of Nazi Germany. On 21 September 1944, the Red Army dislodged the Wehrmacht from Kalinov and it was once again part of Czechoslovakia. Zborov Nad Bystricou
Zborov nad Bystricou () is a village and municipality in Čadca District in the Žilina Region of northern Slovakia. History In historical records the village was first mentioned in 1662. Before 1918 the official name was Felsozboró, or only Zboró. The total population in 1910 was 1,607 which included mostly Roman Catholic Slovaks. The region was devastated by the attacks of Tartars in the 13th century and the first settlers came here after 1400AD (Stara Bystrica).
