The Kyrgyz people in Turkey arrived in Turkey in small groups as a result of invasion of Central Asia by Russian Empire during the 20th century. History The Kyrgyz community that lives in Ulupamir of Erciş ilçe (district) in Van Province have paid particular attention to protect their language. Kyrgyz People
The Kyrgyz people (also spelled Kyrghyz, Kirgiz, and Kirghiz; ) are a Turkic ethnic group native to Central Asia. Kyrgyzstan is the nation state of the Kyrgyz people and significant diaspora can be found in China, Russia, and Uzbekistan. They speak the Kyrgyz language, the official language of Kyrgyzstan. The earliest Kyrgyz people were the descendants of several central Asian tribes, first emerging in western Mongolia around 201 BC. Modern Kyrgyz people are descended from the Yenisei Kyrgyz that lived in the Yenisey river valley in Siberia. Ulupamir
Ulupamir is a village in Erciş district, Van Province, Turkey. History Ulupamir (meaning ''Great Pamir'') is a village of mostly Kyrgyz. They came from the Great Pamir and Little Pamir in the Wakhan, northern Afghanistan, in 1982. They fled to Pakistan in 1978 in the aftermath of the Saur Revolution. However they did not adjust well to the hot Pakistani climate and the unsanitary conditions of the refugee camp, so much so that 450 of them lost their lives. They requested 5,000 visas from the United States Consulate in Peshawar for resettlement in Alaska (a region that shares the climate and temperature of the Wakhan). Their request was denied. To solve this situation the group leader proposed to go to Turkey as immigrants and submitted a request for help to the Turkish Embassy in Pakistan. Erciş (; ku, Erdiş; hy, Ականց, Akants, historically , ''Arjesh'') is a town and district located in the Van Province, Turkey on Lake Van. Van Province
Van Province ( tr, Van ili, ku, Parezgêha Wanê, Armenian: Վանի մարզ) is a province in the Eastern Anatolian region of Turkey, between Lake Van and the Iranian border.
