Kursaal (amusement Park)
The Kursaal () is a former amusement park and a Grade II listed building in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, England. The building, originally known as the Kursaal Palace was opened in 1901 as part of one of the world's first purpose-built amusement parks. The venue is noted for the main building with distinctive dome, designed by George Campbell Sherrin, which featured on a Royal Mail special stamp in 2011. The amusement park was home to Southend United F.C. between 1919 and 1934, and during this time also hosted greyhound racing. The majority of the park was closed in 1973, with the rest of the site closing in 1986. The building remained derelict until it was redeveloped in the late 1990s, opening again in 1998. Southend-on-Sea (), commonly referred to as Southend (), is a coastal city and unitary authorities of England, unitary authority area with Borough status in the United Kingdom, borough status in south-eastern Essex, England. Argent (band)
Argent were an English rock band formed in 1969 by former Zombies keyboardist Rod Argent. They had three UK Top 40 singles: " Hold Your Head Up", which reached No. 5 and spent 12 weeks on the chart, "Tragedy" (No. 34), and " God Gave Rock and Roll to You" (No. 18). Two of their albums charted in the UK: '' All Together Now'', which peaked at No. 13 in 1972, and '' In Deep'', which spent one week at No. 49 in 1973. The Troggs (originally called the Troglodytes) are an English beat music band formed in Andover, Hampshire, in May 1964. The Herd (British Band)
The Herd were an English rock band, founded in 1965. In 1966, 16-year-old Peter Frampton joined as lead singer and guitarist. The band had three UK top twenty hits in the late 1960s, including " From the Underworld" and " I Don't Want Our Loving to Die", before Frampton left in 1968 to form Humble Pie with Steve Marriott. The band broke up shortly after, reforming briefly and unsuccessfully in 1971. Biography The Herd were founded in 1965 in south London, and recorded three unsuccessful singles with Parlophone. The Move
The Move were a British Rock music, rock band formed in Birmingham in 1965. They scored nine Top 40, top 20 UK singles in five years, but were among the most popular British bands not to find any real success in the United States. For most of their career The Move were led by guitarist, singer and songwriter Roy Wood. He wrote all the group's UK singles and, from 1968, also sang lead vocals on many songs. Roll Over Lay Down
"Roll Over Lay Down" is a song by the British Rock band Status Quo (band), Status Quo that was first released on the album ''Hello! (album), Hello!'' in 1973. It was later released as the A-side of a live EP, ''Quo Live'' in 1975. It was released to celebrate the band's 13th anniversary. All of the tracks were recorded live and were taken from concerts at The Kursaal, Southend on 1 March 1975 and Trentham Gardens in Stoke the following night. The band released the EP against the advice of many people who predicted such a release would be a failure. It featured a picture sleeve that contained sleeve notes by BBC Radio 1 DJ John Peel. The centre of each copy of the record was specially moulded to feature the well known 'four heads' design (drawn by Dave Field) from the sleeve of the ''Quo (Status Quo album), Quo'' album.
