Commissar
Commissar (or sometimes ''Kommissar'') is an English transliteration of the Russian (''komissar''), which means ' commissary'. In English, the transliteration ''commissar'' often refers specifically to the political commissars of Soviet and Eastern-bloc armies or to the people's commissars (effectively government ministers), while administrative officers are called ''commissaries''. The Russian word комисса́р, from French ''commissaire'', was used in Russia for both political and administrative officials. The title has been used in the Soviet Union and in Russia since the time of the emperor Peter the Great (). History In the 18th and 19th centuries in the Russian army ''kommissars'', then ''krigs-komissars'' (from 'war') were officials in charge of supply for the armed forces (see Rus. Генерал-кригскомиссар). Commissaries were used during the Provisional Government (March–July 1917) for regional heads of administration, but the term comm ...

Commissar (film)
''Commissar'' (, translit. Komissar) is a 1967 Soviet film directed by Aleksandr Askoldov based on one of Vasily Grossman's first short stories, "In the Town of Berdychev" (В городе Бердичеве). Berdychev is centrally located in the north of Ukraine. The action takes place during the Russian Civil War (1918–22), when the Red Army, White Army, Polish and Austrian contingents were battling for territory. Of equal importance is the fact that in Berdychev, at that time, the Yiddish language was officially instated and, from 1924, it had a Ukrainian court of law conducting its affairs in Yiddish. The plot is based upon an intimate intersection of revolutionary and Jewish cultural manners and ideals. The main characters were played by two People's Artists of the USSR, Rolan Bykov and Nonna Mordyukova. It was made at Gorky Film Studio. Maxim Gorky considered this brief story one of the best about the Russian Civil War and encouraged the young writer to dedicate hims ...

Der Kommissar (song)
"" (; "The Commissioner") is a song recorded by Austrian music artist Falco in 1981. The song was written by Robert Ponger and Falco. It reached the top of the charts in many European countries. An English translated cover version by the group After the Fire in 1982 had greater success in other countries. Background The music of "Der Kommissar" was written by producer Robert Ponger and intended for Reinhold Bilgeri. After Bilgeri rejected it, as he felt the song was too soft, Falco reworked it for his 1982 album '' Einzelhaft'' by adding his text to the partly mixed down instrumental track. Falco would have preferred to release "Helden von heute" as the main side (A-side), because the melody hook of "Der Kommissar" seemed too similar to the bass hook of Rick James' "Super Freak" from which Ponger had borrowed it after its release earlier in 1981, but the record company wanted "Der Kommissar" to be on the A-side, because they felt it had more potential. The record company deci ...

Der Kommissar (album)
''Der Kommissar'' is a compilation album released by the band After the Fire in 1982, featuring the new title track, an English-language cover of a minor Falco hit from earlier that year. With the exception of "Der Kommissar", the singles featured on this compilation were originally from After the Fire's three studio albums recorded for the CBS label: ''Laser Love'', ''80-F'', and ''Batteries Not Included''. In the US, the album was released simply as ''ATF'' by Epic Records on LP and audio cassette with a different track list. It had been released in 2001 on CD by Collectables Records again with a different track list. The U.K. and European CD release follows the original track list. "Der Kommissar" became the band's biggest stateside hit, cracking the top 10. International release track listing Side one # " Der Kommissar" – 4:07 # "Who's Gonna Love You (When You Are Old Fat and Ugly)" – 4:05 # "Frozen Rivers" – 3:36 # "Joy" – 3:17 # "Dancing in the Shadows" – 3 ...

Der Kommissar (TV Series)
''Der Kommissar'' ( English ''The Police Inspector'') is a German television series about a group of detectives of the Munich homicide squad (''Mordkommission''). All 97 episodes (55 minutes each), which were shot in black-and-white and first broadcast between 1969 and 1976, were written by Herbert Reinecker and starred Erik Ode as Kommissar Herbert Keller. Keller's assistants were Walter Grabert ( Günther Schramm), Robert Heines ( Reinhard Glemnitz), and Harry Klein ( Fritz Wepper) who, in 1974, was replaced by his younger brother (also in real life) Erwin Klein ( Elmar Wepper). History Today considered cult television, ''Der Kommissar'' had many of the ingredients of the whodunnit: a murder victim, often unidentified at first; a group of suspects who gradually emerge as the police gather all the evidence available to them; and a police detective who, by sheer reasoning, figures out all by himself who the murderer is, while he has his assistants do all the legwork. In so ...
