Kirkland's
Kirkland's, Inc. is an American retail chain that sells home decor, furniture, textiles, accessories and gifts. It operates 317 stores in 35 states as well as an e-commerce enabled website. It is based in Brentwood, Tennessee. History Kirkland's was founded by Carl Kirkland and Robert Kirkland in 1966 in Jackson, Tennessee, when they began selling home accessories at low prices. As of June 2024, the chain has grown to 329 stores in 35 states. In February 2024, Kirkland's announced it had named Amy Sullivan as the new CEO, replacing CEO, Steve Woodward. Co-founder Robert Kirkland was also the main funder for nationally acclaimed museum and fun park, Discovery Park of America, located in Union City, Tennessee. On June 26, 2024 at the annual meeting of Kirkland's shareholders, two long-time members of Kirkland's Board of Directors, R. Wilson Orr, III and Steven J. Discovery Park of America is a museum and heritage park located just outside the boundary of Union City, Tennessee. The park sits on of land off of Everett Boulevard, near U.S. Route 51 and the proposed Interstate 69. It features exhibits and activities on local history, nature, military history, art and science. History Discovery Park of America was preceded by the Obion County Museum, which was founded in 1970 and housed the historical collections of the McNatt and Harmon families of Obion County, Tennessee. The Obion County Museum was operated entirely by volunteers for 40 years. In 2005, Robert E. Kirkland, a local businessman known for cofounding the Kirkland's chain of home decor stores, approached the Obion County Museum board about the possibility of building a larger facility in Union City. Relay For Life is a community-based walkathon and the largest fundraising event of the American Cancer Society (ACS).
