Kingdom Of Desire
''Kingdom of Desire'' is the eighth studio album by Toto, released internationally in September 1992. It is the first album on which guitarist Steve Lukather assumed sole lead vocal duties and the final album to feature drummer Jeff Porcaro, who died during rehearsals for the tour promoting this album, and the last album which involved all the Porcaro brothers together. The album was mixed by Bob Clearmountain and dedicated to Jeff in his memory. The album was released in May 1993 in the United States. Background and recording During the tour for ''The Seventh One,'' lead singer Joseph Williams was fired from Toto. In between ''The Seventh One'' and ''Kingdom of Desire'', the band released '' Past to Present,'' a compilation album which contained four new tracks. Toto is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1977. Toto combines elements of Pop music, pop, Rock music, rock, Soul music, soul, funk, hard rock, Rhythm and blues, R&B, blues, and jazz. Having released 14 studio albums and sold over 50 million records worldwide, the group has received several Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum in 2009. The Montreux Jazz Festival (formerly Festival de Jazz Montreux and Festival International de Jazz Montreux) is a music festival in Switzerland, held annually in early July in Montreux on the Lake Geneva shoreline. It is the second-largest annual jazz festival in the world after Canada's Montreal International Jazz Festival. Initiator and head organizer Claude Nobs brought an array of artists to Montreux. Greg Ladanyi
Greg Ladanyi (July 6, 1952 – September 29, 2009) was an American record producer and recording engineer of Hungarian descent, known for his work with many musicians, including Jackson Browne, Warren Zevon, The Church, Caifanes, Anna Vissi, Toto, Fleetwood Mac, Don Henley, and Jeff Healey. Biography Ladanyi began his career by working on '' Hasten Down the Wind'' under the tutelage of engineer/producer Val Garay. Around 1980 Ladanyi expanded from just engineering into production as well. He recounted, "Part of the way I came up into coproducing was by elevating engineering to a point where it has an awful lot to do with the production of the record. That comes from a lot of dialogue with an artist and really taking some responsibility for the way a record comes out, as opposed to just sitting there and doing what an artist or producer needs done." ''Isolation'' is the fifth studio album by American rock band Toto, released in November 1984. ''Isolation'' is the first album to feature longtime bassist Mike Porcaro, and the only album with Fergie Frederiksen as the primary vocalist. ''Isolation'' failed to achieve the popularity of its predecessor, '' Toto IV'', although it achieved gold record status and gave the band their highest charting mainstream rock single " Stranger in Town" (No. 7). Mike Porcaro
Michael Joseph Porcaro (May 29, 1955 – March 15, 2015) was an American bass player known for his work with the rock band Toto. He retired from touring in 2007 as a result of being diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). He was the middle brother of Toto members Jeff Porcaro and Steve Porcaro. Their father was jazz drummer-percussionist Joe Porcaro. Early life Mike Porcaro is the second of the three Porcaro brothers. The three brothers were taught drums by their father at his drum shop every weekend. Jeff said that he himself wasn't the best drummer, adding that Mike was a better player than him before he switched to bass, while Steve later took up piano before they moved to California. David Paich
David Frank Paich (born June 25, 1954) is an American keyboardist, singer, and songwriter, best known as the co-founder, principal songwriter, keyboardist, and secondary vocalist of the rock band Toto (band), Toto since 1977. He wrote or co-wrote much of Toto's original material, including the band's three most popular songs: "Hold the Line", "Rosanna (song), Rosanna", and "Africa (Toto song), Africa". With Toto, Paich has contributed to 17 albums and sold over 40 million records. He and guitarist and singer Steve Lukather are the only members to appear on every studio album. Jean-Michel Byron
Jean-Michel Byron (born Jean-Michel Byron DuPlessis) is a South African-born funk and rock vocalist. The singer-songwriter is best known for serving for a time as the lead vocalist for the rock band Toto for new material on their first greatest hits album, '' Past to Present'', as well as the band's '' Greatest Hits Live...and More'' project. The album features rare original demos, outtakes, previously unreleased recordings and live tracks from the band's 20-year career. Despite its being labeled as a compilation album, Steve Lukather in 2014 defined the album as the tenth studio album overall (''see Toto XIV)''. The first single released, "Goin' Home" was recorded during Bobby Kimball's brief first reunion with the band in 1989, prior to the record company's decision to replace him with new lead singer Jean-Michel Byron. Robert Troy Kimball (born March 29, 1947) is an American retired singer best known as longtime frontman of the rock band Toto from 1977 to 1984 and again from 1998 to 2008. He has also performed as a solo artist and session singer. History Early life Kimball was born in Orange, Texas but raised in nearby Vinton, Louisiana. (Vinton did not have a hospital.) Joseph Stanley Williams (born September 1, 1960) is an American singer, songwriter and film score composer, best known as the lead vocalist of the rock band Toto (band), Toto from 1986 to 1988 and again since 2010. Williams is a son of actress Barbara Ruick and prolific film composer John Williams. Outside of Toto, he has worked as a composer and studio vocalist, including providing the singing voice of adult Simba in the 1994 animated film ''The Lion King''. The Seventh One
''The Seventh One'' is the seventh studio album by the American rock band Toto. It was released on February 8, 1988, and became the best-received Toto album since ''Toto IV''. The title track, "The Seventh One", is featured only on the Japanese version of the album and on the B-side of the single "Pamela". It was also released on some compilations on a later date. It would be their second and last studio album with lead vocalist Joseph Williams until ''Toto XIV'' (2015). Background and recording Steve Lukather described the writing of ''The Seventh One'' as a period of prolific "one-upmanship" with the band trying to impress one another with their compositions. One of the first compositions completed was the ballad "Anna", written by Lukather and Randy Goodrum. Lukather considers the song to be one of his best compositions.
