Kell Factor
The Kell factor, named after RCA engineer Raymond D. Kell, is a parameter used to limit the bandwidth of a sampled image signal to avoid the appearance of beat frequency patterns when displaying the image in a distinct display device, usually taken to be 0.7. The number was first measured in 1934 by Raymond D. Kell and his associates as 0.64 but has suffered several revisions given that it is based on image perception, hence subjective, and is not independent of the type of display. It was later revised to 0.85 but can go higher than 0.9, when fixed pixel scanning (e.g., CCD or CMOS) and fixed pixel displays (e.g., LCD or plasma) are used, or as low as 0.7 for electron gun scanning. From a different perspective, the Kell factor defines the effective resolution of a distinct display device since the full resolution cannot be used without viewing experience degradation. The actual sampled resolution will depend on the spot size and intensity distribution. For electron gun s ...

Kell (volcano)
Kell () is a small Pleistocene stratovolcano. It is located just north of the Zheltovsky volcano, within the Prizrak caldera on the southeast coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia. Because of its remote and inaccessible location, most information about the volcano comes from aerial surveys. The volcano was discovered during an aerial survey in 1946. The Prizrak caldera has a diameter of about . It is located on top of the site of an ancient stratovolcano whose base has a diameter of about . The slopes of the caldera feature a network of erosional valleys. Within the Prizrak caldera complex are at least three partially nested calderas, each about in diameter. Kell is the largest of several small stratovolcanoes, composed mainly of lava, in the innermost portion of the caldera. The caldera also contains lava domes. The innermost caldera is thought to date from the Late Pleistocene. The activity of the volcano appears to have ceased in post-glacial time; there is no evidenc ...

Kell Antigen System
The Kell antigen system (also known as the Kell–Cellano system) is a human blood group system, that is, a group of antigens on the human red blood cell surface which are important determinants of blood type and are targets for autoimmune or alloimmune diseases which destroy red blood cells. The Kell antigens are K, k, Kpa, Kpb, Jsa and Jsb. The Kell antigens are peptides found within the Kell protein, a 93-kilodalton transmembrane zinc-dependent endopeptidase which is responsible for cleaving endothelin-3. Protein The ''KEL'' gene encodes a type II transmembrane glycoprotein that is the highly polymorphic Kell blood group antigen. The Kell glycoprotein links via a single disulfide bond to the XK membrane protein that carries the Kx antigen. The encoded protein contains sequence and structural similarity to members of the neprilysin (M13) family of zinc endopeptidases. There are several alleles of the gene which creates Kell protein. Two such alleles, ''K1'' (Kell) and ' ...

Oast House
An oast, oast house (or oasthouse) or hop kiln is a building designed for kilning (drying) hops as part of the brewing process. Oast houses can be found in most hop-growing (and former hop-growing) areas, and are often good examples of agricultural vernacular architecture. Many redundant oast houses have been converted into houses. The names "oast" and "oast house" are used interchangeably in Kent and Sussex, but in Surrey, Hampshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire they are called "hop kilns". An oast house consists of a rectangular one- or two-storey building (the "stowage") and one or more kilns in which the hops were spread out to be dried by hot air rising from a wood or charcoal fire below. The drying floors were thin and perforated to permit the heat to pass through and escape through a cowl in the roof which turned with the wind. The freshly picked hops from the fields were raked in to dry and then raked out to cool before being bagged up and sent to the brewery. The Ke ...
