Kawasaki Vulcan
The Vulcan name has been used by Kawasaki motorcycles, Kawasaki for their Custom motorcycle, custom or touring bike since 1984, model designation VN, using mostly V-twin engines ranging from . Model history 1984–2006: Vulcan 750 series In 1985 Kawasaki launched, worldwide, the Vulcan VN700A, its first cruiser powered by its first V-twin engine. The VN700A has a drive shaft, shaft drive. Kawasaki also made the now rare VZ 750 variant with chromed wheel arches and other subtle differences. To avoid United States tariffs on Japanese motorcycles over 700cc, the initial US model was limited to 699 cc but in 1986, the tariff was lifted so the engine capacity was increased to 749 cc. Kawasaki 454 LTD
The Kawasaki Motorcycles, Kawasaki 454 LTD is a motorcycle produced from 1985 to 1990, also known as the EN450. It is the forerunner of the Kawasaki Vulcan 500, Kawasaki Vulcan. The engine was based on the Kawasaki Ninja 900s, with two fewer cylinders. The Kawasaki 900 had a 908 cc engine. Removing two cylinders from the 4-cylinder divided the number of cc's by two. (908/2 = 454, thus the name). Included was the liquid cooling, the bore and stroke, the double overhead camshafts, and four valves per cylinder, although the cam chain was relocated from the left side of the engine to the middle, running between the two cylinders. The design basis for the engine bottom end was also totally different, with fundamental differences easily observed from the outside in the water pump, charging system and starter motor solutions. A softail (shortened form of ''soft tail'') motorcycle intentionally looks like vintage motorcycles with a rigid hard-tail frame that has a triangle of steel tubes at the rear axle, as on a bicycle frame, but on a Softail these tubes are actually a triangular swingarm, with the shock absorber(s) hidden, as opposed to clearly visible regular twin shocks on both sides of the rear wheel on standard bikes.
