Kapıkule
Kapıkule is the name of the Turkish border crossing point in Edirne Province on the border of Turkey and Bulgaria. Its counterpart on the Bulgarian side is Kapitan Andreevo. Together, they form the busiest land border crossing point in Europe. Kapıkule, situated on the State road D100 (D.100) and European route E80, is also an important gateway for cargo transport to the countries east of Turkey. The Asian Highway Network route AH1 terminates at the border. Other land border checkpoints in western Turkey are the neighboring Hamzabeyli (on the D.535) and Dereköy (on the D.555) to Bulgaria and İpsala (on the D.110, E84) to Greece. The Kapıkule railway station, built in 1971, is located to the north of the town and handles more traffic than any other railway border crossing in Turkey. State Road D100 (Turkey)
D.100, in public known as E-5, is a west-to-east state road in Turkey. It starts at Kapıkule, the Bulgarian border check point, and ends in Gürbulak, the Iranian border check point.Vatan Türkiye Turizm Atlası, Boyut Yayıncılık, Istanbul, 2009 Running all the way from west to east, it crosses most of the north-to-south state roads, including the D.650, D.750, D.850 and D.950. Asian Highway 1
Asian Highway 1 (AH1) is the longest east-west route of the Asian Highway Network, running from Tokyo, Japan via the Korean Peninsula (South Korea and North Korea), China (Mainland China and Hong Kong), Mainland Southeast Asia (Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, and Myanmar), the Indian Subcontinent (India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan), and the Iranian Plateau (Afghanistan and Iran) to the international border between Turkey and Bulgaria west of Istanbul where it joins end-on with European route E80, running all the way to Lisbon, Portugal. Asian Highway Network
The Asian Highway Network (AH), also known as the Great Asian Highway, is a cooperative project among countries in Asia and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) to improve their connectivity via highway systems. It is one of the three pillars of the Asian Land Transport Infrastructure Development (ALTID) project, endorsed by the ESCAP commission at its 48th session in 1992, comprising Asian Highway, Trans-Asian railway (TAR) and facilitation of land transport projects. Agreements have been signed by 32 countries to allow the highway to cross the continent and also reach to Europe. European route E80, also known as the Trans-European Motorway or TEM, is an A-Class West-East European route, extending from Lisbon, Portugal to Gürbulak, Turkey, on the border with Iran. Kapitan Andreevo
Kapitan Andreevo ( ) is a village near the Bulgaria—Turkey—Greece tripoint in Svilengrad municipality, Haskovo Province, southern Bulgaria. As of 2005 it has 948 inhabitants and the mayor is Dimitar Shiderov. Due to the proximity with Turkey, there is a major border checkpoint built there, with the Turkish side of the checkpoint being called Kapıkule. The busy Bulgaria–Turkey border crossing at Kapitan Andreevo is an important point of entrance to the European Union. Kapitan Andreevo is located at , 30 metres above sea level. The checkpoint, one of the busiest in the European Union, has been notorious as an entry point for drugs into the EU, and has long been reported to be run by organized crime. Dereköy, Kırklareli
Dereköy () is a village of Kırklareli District of Kırklareli Province, Marmara Region, western Turkey. Its population is 432 (2022). It is one of the three land border crossing points between Bulgaria and Turkey. Geography The village is located in Strandzha mountains, 20 km north of the centre of Kırklareli, near the border with Bulgaria. History In the 19th century, Dereköy was a Bulgarian village in the Kaza of Kırklareli, which was in turn in the Vilayet of Edirne. In 1873, the village consisted of 360 households with 1684 Bulgarians. After the Russo-Ottoman War of 1877–1878, first families from Dereköy migrated to Razgrad and Tutrakan to the newly sovereign Bulgaria. According to statistics provided by Ljubomir Miletitsch, Dereköy had about 150 households and 634 inhabitants in 1900, all of whom were Christian Bulgarians.
