Kansas State Wildcats Football
The Kansas State Wildcats football program (variously K-State or KSU) is the intercollegiate football program of the Kansas State University Wildcats. The program is classified in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), and the team competes in the Big 12 Conference. Historically, the team has an all-time losing record, at 579-675–41 as of the conclusion of the 2024 season. However, the program has had some stretches of winning in its history. Most recently, in 2022 the team under head coach Chris Klieman won the Big 12 Conference and appeared in its first Sugar Bowl. Under former coach Bill Snyder, Kansas State won two conference titles, finished the 1998 regular season with an undefeated (11–0) record and No. 1 national ranking, and from 1995 to 2001 appeared in the AP Poll for 108 consecutive weeks—the 16th-longest streak in college football history. Gene Taylor (athletic Director)
Forrest Gene Taylor (born July 22, 1957) is an American university sports administrator, currently serving as the athletic director at Kansas State University, serving since May 2017. Prior to his current position, Taylor served as the deputy athletics director at the University of Iowa from 2014 to 2017, and was the athletics director at North Dakota State University from 2001 to 2014. Career Early career Born in Safford, Arizona, Taylor graduated from Arizona State University in business in 1980 and completed his master's degree from St. Thomas University in 1985. After graduating from Arizona State, Taylor worked in restaurants while completing his master's degree. Wildcat Victory
"Wildcat Victory" is Kansas State University's official fight song. It was written in 1927 by Harry E. Erickson, when the school was still known as Kansas State Agricultural College. In addition to this song, the Kansas State University Marching Band also commonly plays "Wabash Cannonball" as an alternate fight song. John Philip Sousa's " Kansas Wildcats March," written for the school, is Kansas State's official march. On occasion, "Wildcat Victory" may be played for notable alumnus of Kansas State University by other bands. The Kansas State–Nebraska football rivalry was an American college football rivalry between the Kansas State Wildcats and Nebraska Cornhuskers. The schools first met as non-conference opponents in 1911, and then played a conference game annually from 1922 to 2010, first in the Big Eight and later in the Big 12. The Sunflower Showdown is the series of athletic contests between Kansas State University and the University of Kansas athletic programs, most notably football and men's basketball. The name is derived from a nickname for the state of Kansas as well as the state flower, the Sunflower State. The two schools compete each year for the Governor's Cup in football. The football series dates back to 1902, and has been played every year since 1911, making it the fourth-longest active series in NCAA college football.
