Kansas Smitty's House Band
Kansas Smitty's House Band is a London-based group that specialises in original jazz music. The band run their own bar on Broadway Market in Hackney, located in the London Borough of Hackney. History Kansas Smitty’s House Band was formed in 2013 by Jack Abraham and Giacomo Smith. Jazz
Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Its roots are in blues, ragtime, European harmony, African rhythmic rituals, spirituals, hymns, marches, vaudeville song, and dance music. Since the 1920s Jazz Age, it has been recognized as a major form of musical expression in traditional and popular music. Jamie Cullum
Jamie Paul Joseph Cullum (born 20 August 1979) is an English jazz-pop singer, pianist, songwriter and radio presenter. Although primarily a vocalist and pianist, he also accompanies himself on other instruments, including guitar and drums. He has recorded nine studio albums, three compilation albums, one live album and twenty-four Music single, singles. Since April 2010, he has presented a weekly Tuesday evening jazz show on BBC Radio 2. Early life Cullum's Jewish father, whose own mother had fled Nazi Germany, was born in Jerusalem. His mother's father was Indian and her mother was born in Burma. Following the Japanese conquest of Burma, Japanese invasion, the family left Burma and moved to Wales, when his mother was aged five. The ''London Standard'', formerly the ''Evening Standard'' (1904–2024) and originally ''The Standard'' (1827–1904), is a long-established regional newspaper published weekly and distributed free newspaper, free of charge in London, England. It is printed in Tabloid (newspaper format), tabloid format, and also has an online edition. In October 2009, after being bought by Russian businessman Alexander Lebedev, the paper ended a 180-year history of print circulation, paid circulation and multiple editions every day, and became a free newspaper publishing a single print edition every weekday, doubling its circulation as part of a change in its business plan. Joe Stilgoe
Joe Stilgoe (born 29 May 1979) is an English singer, pianist and songwriter. Early life and education Stilgoe was born in Sevenoaks, Kent. He is the son of the lyricist and entertainer Richard Stilgoe, and opera singer Annabel Hunt. Educated at Sevenoaks School, Stilgoe went on to study music at the University of Southampton achieving a First Class degree. After spending a year performing on cruise ships, Stilgoe continued his musicianship at Trinity College of Music. Musical career During his time at Trinity College, he began to get noticed in bars and clubs, with a long term residency at The Dorchester hotel, London. Stilgoe's first public engagement was at the Pizza on the Park, London in 2004. Howard Alden
Howard Vincent Alden (born October 17, 1958) is an American jazz guitarist born in Newport Beach, California. Alden has recorded many albums for Concord Records, including four with seven-string guitar innovator George Van Eps. Early life Howard Vincent Alden was born in Newport Beach, California, on October 17, 1958. He grew up in Huntington Beach, playing piano, harmonica, the four-string tenor guitar, and then four-string banjo at age ten. After hearing recordings of Barney Kessel, Charlie Christian, Django Reinhardt, and other jazz guitar greats, he got a six-string guitar and started teaching himself to play. As a teenager he played both instruments at venues in the Los Angeles area. He studied guitar with Jimmy Wyble when he was 16. Louis Maxwell Cole (born December 5, 1986) is an American multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, and video producer who is the drummer, keyboardist, bassist and occasional singer of the independent electronic jazz-funk duo Knower. He is speculated to be a member of the avant-garde musical duo Clown Core. Cole has released five albums with Knower and four albums with Clown Core, beginning in 2010. As a solo artist, he self-released two albums before signing with Brainfeeder and releasing his third album, ''Time'' (2018). Howard “Howe” Gelb (born October 22, 1956, in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania) is an American singer-songwriter, musician and record producer based in Tucson, Arizona.
