The Kamman Building
The John F. Kamman Building is a historic commercial building located at Buffalo in Erie County, New York. The building's location in the Hydraulics area was near the large livestock yards and rail lines booming in the nineteenth-century (Buffalo was second only to Chicago in the number of cattle and hogs it handled). German butchers such as the Kamman family (immigrants who arrived in the mid-1800s) established themselves. Henry Kamman ran a butcher shop at 573-575 Seneca Street and Jefferson Avenue while brother John F. Kamman purchased property in the 700 block of Seneca during the 1850s and early 1860s and built the J. F. Kamman Slaughterhouse including barns, processing buildings, and sheds. Kam Man Food (; abbreviated KM Food) is a Chinese supermarket chain with its corporate headquarters in Edison, New Jersey, United States. Its original location is in Chinatown, New York City. While it has its main store in Manhattan (named "New Kam Man"), it also has locations in Quincy, Massachusetts, Edison, New Jersey and East Hanover, New Jersey. A location in Staten Island, New York, opened in 2005 and closed on October 1, 2006. The first Chinese supermarket on the East Coast of the United States, Kam Man opened for business in 1972. Leigh Kamman
Leigh Kamman (September 2, 1922 – October 17, 2014) was an American radio host who focused on bringing jazz music to the airwaves during his career, which spanned more than six decades. He began his career in the Minneapolis-St. Paul, Twin Cities area of Minnesota, but spent time in other places such as at WADO, WOV radio in New York City. On September 29, 2007, he hosted his last edition of ''The Jazz Image'' on Minnesota Public Radio, which he had run since 1973. Upon his retirement, he told listeners, "I really want to take time now for some projects that have been waiting, including a book I've long wished to write." Kamman was honored numerous times for his contributions to the region and the promotion of "the only original United States, American art form." He became intrigued with jazz in the 1930s when he was 12 years old, doing odd jobs at resorts in central Minnesota. Madeleine Kamman
Madeleine Kamman (22 November 1930 – 16 July 2018) was a French chef and restaurateur, cookery teacher and author of seven cookbooks, who spent most of her working life in America bringing the rigors of French technique to American ingredients and audiences. Family Born Madeleine Marguerite Pin in Courbevoie, France, she was the daughter of Charles Pin and his wife Simone, née Labarriere. She studied at the Sorbonne and Le Cordon Bleu in Paris. In 1960, she married Alan Kamman, a civil engineer, and moved to America. The couple had two sons. Kamman suffered from Alzheimer's disease in her last years and died in Middlebury, Vermont, at the age of 87.
