KBEM-FM (88.5 FM, "Jazz88") is a public radio station broadcasting a jazz format based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States, the station serves the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. The station is operated by the Minneapolis Public Schools system and has been partnering since 1989 with the Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT), providing traffic congestion reports for commuters in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. KBEM also broadcasts live headliner performances from the Twin Cities Jazz Festival each June. KBEM is a member of Minnesota's AMPERS network. North Community High School
North Community High School, or simply North, is a four-year public comprehensive high school located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The school has existed for over 120 years in several buildings all located on the city's northside. Minneapolis North once had a predominantly Jewish student body but by 1982, the school and the neighborhood it is located in had become mostly African American. Desegregation efforts, such as magnet school programs, have attempted to attract students from throughout Minneapolis and nearby suburbs. KBEM-FM, established by Minneapolis Public Schools in 1970, is operated partially by North students and has been located at the school since 1985. History North has occupied four buildings. AMPERS (Association of Minnesota Public Educational Radio Stations) is an association of 17 independent community radio stations in Minnesota. Each station is locally managed and programmed by and for the local community it serves. AMPERS is the largest statewide association of community radio stations in the United States. Twin Cities Hot Summer Jazz Festival
The Twin Cities Jazz Fest, formerly Twin Cities Hot Summer Jazz Festival, is a jazz festival in St. Paul, Minnesota, USA. Founded in 1999 by Steve Heckler, the festival is centered in the Lowertown neighborhood in downtown St. Paul. The main stage is located in Mears Park with additional stages throughout the city. The festival closes several blocks and has used clubs such as the Bulldog, Hat Trick, St. Paul Hotel, Mancini's, Black Dog, Hygga, Vieux Carre, Union Depot, Amsterdam Bar and Gril and the Citizen Bar and Grill. In partnership with the Dakota Foundation for Jazz Education and Walker West Music Academy], over 100 young musicians perform at the festival. Owned by the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, the station is operated by students and faculty. It mainly airs alternative rock with other genres of music. The studios are in Rarig Center on the University of Minnesota campus. KUOM is a member of AMPERS, the Association of Minnesota Public Educational Radio Stations.
