Jura Distillery
Jura distillery is a Scotch whisky distillery on the island of Jura in the Inner Hebrides off the West Coast of Scotland. The distillery is owned by Glasgow founded and based Whyte and Mackay, which in turn is owned by Philippines-based Emperador Inc. History The distillery was founded by the Laird of Jura, Archibald Campbell in 1810. The distillery fell into disrepair but was restored in 1884. Around 1900, it was again in disuse and dismantled. In the 1950s two local estate owners, Robin Fletcher and Tony Riley-Smith, keen to revive the local economy, had the distillery rebuilt and expanded by the architects Lothian, Barclay, Jarvis & Boys with input from whisky and distillery expert William Delmé-Evans. Whyte & Mackay is a company producing alcoholic beverages based in Glasgow, Scotland. It is owned by Emperador Inc. (a subsidiary of the Alliance Global Group). History Charles Mackay (1850–1919) and James Whyte founded a company as whisky merchants and bonded warehousemen in Glasgow in 1882. W&M Special was their first blended whisky and it was successful in the United Kingdom and other English speaking countries. After World War II the company focused on the home market and now sell more than 1 million cases a year. The brand was purchased by Hugh Fraser's SUITS group in 1971. Tayvallich
Tayvallich (pronounced ; gd, Taigh a' Bhealaich ) is a small village in the Knapdale area of Argyll and Bute, in Scotland. The village name has its origins in Gaelic, and means the "house of the pass". The village is built around a sheltered harbour on Loch Sween. It has a primary school, caravan park, pub and village store. The local economy is based on tourism and fishing. There is also a local bus service that takes the older children to nearby Lochgilphead where the nearest high school is situated. Tayvallich has become a popular sailing centre. Islay Airport
Islay Airport (also known as Glenegedale Airport) is located north-northwest of Port Ellen on the island of Islay in Argyll and Bute, off the west coast of Scotland. It is a small rural airport owned and maintained by Highlands and Islands Airports Limited. Today the airport is used for scheduled services to the Scottish mainland, and for air ambulances. History The first airports were built in Islay in the 1930s, although these were just grass strips. MV ''Eilean Dhiura'' is a vehicle ferry operating across the Sound of Islay. History ''Eilean Dhiura'' was commissioned by Argyll and Bute Council in 1998, to replace Western Ferries as the Jura Ferry. She was operated initially by Serco Denholm until 2003, now by ASP Ship Management Ltd. In December 2000, her bow ramp collapsed while at sea. Following this, the MCA required a secondary door to be fitted behind the bow door. A bid by the council for money to replace her was unsuccessful. A new bow ramp was fitted in 2002. Port Askaig ( gd, Port Asgaig) is a port village on the east coast of the island of Islay, in Scotland. The village lies on the Sound of Islay (Caol Ìle) across from Jura. Economy Port Askaig has a hotel, a petrol station and shop next to the port but has very few households. In 2014, it was rated one of the most attractive postcode areas to live in Scotland.
