John Marvin (politician)
John Marvin (September 2, 1678–February 2, 1776) was a member of the House of Representatives of the Colony of Connecticut from Norwalk in the sessions of May 1734, and May 1738. Biography John Marvin was the son of Matthew Marvin, Jr. and Mary Brush. In 1708, he was appointed town collector of the town of Norwalk. On December 14, 1711, he was chosen surveyor of highways. On December 18, 1712, he was on a committee to obtain a teacher for the school. He was chosen as a selectman in 1706, 1713 and 1719. He served as a constable in 1717. He served as fence viewer in 1721 and 1729. He served as a "lyster," in 1724. In 1734 and 1738 he represented Norwalk in the General Assembly. In 1718, he, along with others was chosen to lay before "a wise and judicious committee" the "surcomstances of ye town in their present differences respecting the meeting-house." John Marvin (boxer)
John Marvin (born 14 January 1993) is an English-Filipino amateur boxer who is a native of the Isle of Wight in England. He has represented the Philippines in boxing internationally. Boxing career Early career In 2010, Marvin used to fight with others after school for fun but the police had to intervene in one fight and Marvin was told to take up his fight to a boxing gym. He joined the Ventnor Club and trained under coach Darren Green. He later joined the military where he further pursued boxing. After winning the Army Individuals Championship where he knocked out his semifinals and finals opponents in the second round, he was invited to the boxing team of the British Army in 2014. By August 2017, he is a two-time Combined Services Senior Boxing champion and had an amateur record of 23 wins, 11 of which are by knockouts, and 11 losses. John Gage Marvin
John Gage Marvin (1815–1855) was an American lawyer, known as a legal bibliographer and figure of the history of California. Early life He was born at Le Raysville, Pennsylvania, and was educated at Wesleyan University in Connecticut. He then taught at Athens Academy, Athens, Pennsylvania from 1840.Michael H. Hoeflich, ''Annals of Legal Bibliography: J. G. Marvin'', Law Library Journal (2004) vol. 96PDF. Three of his brothers attended the school, and a fourth worked the farm at Le Raysville. In 1842 Marvin enrolled at Harvard Law School, from an address given as Towanda, Pennsylvania, and was there for four years, studying under Simon Greenleaf, Joseph Story and Charles Sumner. He graduated LL.B. in 1846, having served as Librarian. John Senator Marvin (July 11, 1897 – December 10, 1944) was an early American recording artist and musician, starting in 1924 and covering a twenty-year period for many record labels. Early years Born in Butler, Oklahoma Territory in 1897, Marvin ran away from home at age 16. He served in the US Navy during World War I. After returning home, he went on the road as a vaudeville performer.
