Sir James Rankin, 1st Baronet (25 December 1842 – 17 April 1915) was a Conservative Party politician in the United Kingdom. He was Member of Parliament for Leominster from 1880 to 1885, and from 1886 until the general election of 1906, losing the seat by only 28 votes to the Liberal candidate. He regained the seat in January 1910 and resigned in March 1912. He was made a Baronet on 20 June 1898, of Bryngwyn (Bryngwyn Manor, near Wormelow Tump), Herefordshire. James Rankin (lighthouse Keeper)
James Rankin (February 20, 1844 – January 5, 1921) was a lighthouse keeper in the United States. A native of Killashee, County Longford, Ireland, Rankin emigrated to the United States in 1867. He served in the U.S. Lighthouse Service as the keeper of East Brother Island Light in California from 1877 to 1878. He then transferred to Fort Point Light in San Francisco, where he remained for 40 years, until retiring in 1919. During his tenure he was credited with saving the lives of 18 people. Rankin died in Antioch, California, where he had moved soon after retiring. In 1997, the United States Coast Guard named a buoy tender USCGC ''James Rankin'' (WLM-555) in his honor. James Palmer Rankin
James Palmer Rankin (April 30, 1855 – June 15, 1934) was a physician and political figure in Ontario, Canada. He represented Perth North in the House of Commons of Canada from 1908 to 1911 and from 1921 to 1925 as a Liberal. Rankin then sat for Perth North division in the Senate of Canada from 1925 to 1934. He was born in East Zorra, Canada West, the son of David Rankin and Jane P. Dennis, and was educated in Cobourg and Hamilton, then at the University of Toronto and University of Edinburgh. Rankin practised as a physician and surgeon in Stratford, Ontario. He married Mary Jane McKee in 1880. Air Commodore James Rankin, (7 May 1913 – March 1975) was a Royal Air Force officer, fighter pilot and flying ace of the Second World War. Early life Rankin was born in Portobello, Edinburgh on 7 May 1913, although his family later moved to Lancashire. RAF career Rankin joined the Royal Air Force (RAF) in 1935 and, following training at No. 2 Flying Training School, he joined No. 25 Squadron and later flew with the Fleet Air Arm with 825 Naval Air Squadron on . After service with the Fleet Air Arm he became an instructor with No. 5 Operational Training Unit. Early in 1941 he was promoted to squadron leader and attached to No. 64 Squadron to gain operational experience. He claimed a third of a Junkers Ju 88 shot down and 2 damaged in his short spell with the squadron.
