James Francis McIntyre
James Francis Aloysius McIntyre (June 25, 1886 – July 16, 1979) was an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as Archbishop of Los Angeles from 1948 to 1970, and was created a cardinal in 1953. He was a highly successful builder of new parishes, churches, and schools. He was notable in Church politics, and his reputation remains highly controversial. Early life James McIntyre was born in Manhattan to James and Mary (née Pelly) McIntyre. His father was a native of New York City and member of the mounted police, and his mother was from Kiltormer, County Galway, Ireland. McIntyre attended Public School No. 70 because there was no room for him at the local parochial school. His father was rendered an invalid after falling from his horse in Central Park and sustaining serious injuries; his mother then opened a dressmaking business to support the family. Sir Laurence Rupert "Jim" McIntyre (22 June 191221 November 1981) was an Australian public servant and diplomat. Career McIntyre joined the Department of External Affairs in 1940. In September 1952, McIntyre was appointed Australian Commissioner for Malaya, having served as Acting Commissioner in the year before. In November 1959, McIntyre's appointment as Australian Ambassador to Japan was announced. His term in Japan was extended to take in the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo. He was President of the United Nations Security Council in October 1973, during the 1973 Arab–Israeli War and was lauded for capably handling the situation in the role. Awards and honours In 1953, McIntyre was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire whilst he was Commissioner to Malaya in Singapore. Jim McIntyre is a musician best known as the man behind the Elephant 6 band Von Hemmling. He was also the original bassist for The Apples in Stereo before leaving in 1993. He has written or co-written many early songs for the band, including "Stop Along the Way", "Touch The Water", "To Love The Vibration Of The Bulb" and "Dots 1-2-3". He also plays bass on several tracks that appear on the debut album ''Fun Trick Noisemaker'', as well as engineering and performing on other Apples in Stereo albums. Jim McIntyre (footballer)
James McIntyre (born 24 May 1972) is a Scottish football player and coach. McIntyre played mainly as a striker or as a left midfielder. During his playing career he played for Bristol City, Exeter City, Airdrieonians, Kilmarnock, Reading, Dundee United and Dunfermline Athletic. He started his managerial career with Dunfermline Athletic followed by a scouting role at Bristol City. He then managed Queen of the South and Ross County, winning the Scottish League Cup in March 2016 with County. He was appointed Dundee manager in October 2018, but he was sacked in May 2019 after the club had been relegated. He returned to management in June 2022 with Cove Rangers, but was sacked six months later following poor form. Reverend James McIntyre (1927 – December 10, 2005) was an American basketball player for the University of Minnesota from 1945–46 to 1948–49. A native of Minneapolis, Minnesota, he led Patrick Henry High School to two state championships before becoming a two-time consensus All-American at Minnesota. McIntyre is recognized as being the University of Minnesota's first true "big man." Standing at and playing the center position, he was especially large for players of the late 1940s era. During his career, he was a two-time First Team All-Big Ten Conference and one-time Second Team All-Big Ten selection. McIntyre scored 1,223 points and had set a then-single season Minnesota scoring record of 360 points. James Alfred McIntyre (31 October 1881 – 1954) was an English footballer who became manager at Southampton, Coventry City and Fulham. Playing career McIntyre was born in Wednesbury, Staffordshire. He was a journeyman player of some repute, playing as an inside-forward, and had spells with West Midlands teams Witton Albion, Darlaston Town and Wednesbury Old Athletic. In 1901, he joined Walsall (his home-town club), before spending the 1902–03 season in the First Division at Notts County. He then had a spell at Reading before joining Coventry City as a player in 1905, where he scored hat-tricks in his second and third games for the club. After his playing days were over he worked at the Humber car factory in Coventry and spent one season refereeing in the Coventry & North Warwickshire League, also turning out for Dudley & Bournbrook, before returning to Coventry City as an assistant trainer in 1907. James McIntyre (baptised 25 May 1828 – 31 March 1906) was a Scottish poet who emigrated to Canada in 1851. He is sometimes called ''The Cheese Poet'', as cheese was a recurring theme in many of his poems. Life and works McIntyre was born in Forres, Scotland, and came to Canada in 1851 at the age of 24. He worked as a hired hand to begin with, performing pioneer chores that formed the basis of a number of his works. Later, he settled in St. Catharines, Ontario, where he dealt in furniture. There he married and had a daughter and son John William McIntyre. He later moved to Ingersoll, Ontario, then a town of 5,000 on the banks of the Thames in Oxford County, the heart of Canadian dairy country at the time. He opened a furniture factory on the river as well as a store which sold furniture, along with such items as pianos and coffins.
