J Award Of 2005
The J Award of 2005 is the inaugural annual J Awards, established by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's youth-focused radio station Triple J. The announcement comes at the culmination of Ausmusic Month (November), on 3 December 2005. In 2005, there was only one category, ''Australian Album of the Year''. Background As part of Triple J's 30th anniversary celebrations in 2005, the station inaugurated a single "J Award" to be given for "an album of outstanding achievement as an Australian musical work of art and for its creativity, innovation, musicianship and contribution to Australian music." Who's eligible? Any Australian album released independently or through a record company, or sent to Triple J in consideration for airplay, is eligible for the J Award. The Beautiful Girls
The Beautiful Girls are an Australian roots music group founded in Sydney in 2001 by Mat McHugh, Clay MacDonald, and Mitchell Connelly. They have released three extended plays, '' Morning Sun'' (2002), ''Goodtimes'' (2002), and '' The Weight of the World'' (2004), plus five studio albums, '' Learn Yourself'' (2003), '' We're Already Gone'' (2005), ''Ziggurats'' (2007), '' Spooks'' (2010), and '' Dancehall Days'' (2014). Clare Bowditch
Clare Bowditch (born 1975) is an Australian musician, actress, radio presenter and business entrepreneur. At the ARIA Music Awards of 2006, Bowditch won the ARIA Award for Best Female Artist and was nominated for a Logie Award for her work on the TV series ''Offspring'' in 2012. She has toured with Gotye and Leonard Cohen, written for ''Harpers Bazaar'', ''Rolling Stone'' and ''Drum''. She currently hosts an Australian music program on a Qantas airlines in-flight audio channel. Bowditch is currently an ambassador for the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA), Pirate Party of Canada (PPCA) and Smiling Mind. She is also a member of the Victorian state government's Live Music Round Table Panel. She was the secretary of the Music Victoria board until 2012. Make Me Love You
''Make Me Love You'' is the debut album by Australian instrumental band Pivot (now PVT). It was released on 8 August 2005 through Sensory Projects and distributed by Inertia Distribution. It received strong radio support (particularly the track "Montecore") and a nomination for the J Award, or Australian Album of the Year, by national radio station Triple J. The album was produced by the group's Richard Pike, mixed by Richard Belkner, and mastered by William Bowden. One notable sample from the album is the use of the violin from Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's 1888 piece ''Scheherazade'' on the second track of the album, "Artificial Horizon". In October 2015 PVT re-issued ''Make Me Love You'' in a vinyl format with a bonus CD, ''You Make Me Love - B-Sides & Demos 2003-2005'', of material from the original recording sessions. PVT (disemvoweling of ''pivot'') is an experimental band based between London and Sydney. Band members are Richard Pike, Laurence Pike and Dave Miller. Brothers Richard and Laurence grew up in Sydney, later meeting Dave Miller who originally comes from Perth, Australia. The band have released five albums. History PVT was formed as Pivot in Sydney in 1999 by brothers Richard Pike and Laurence Pike. The band spent the subsequent four years developing their sound and working on their debut album, with guitarist Richard Pike producing. They released their debut album, ''Make Me Love You'', in August 2005 on Sensory Records. It was nominated for a J Award by national youth broadcaster Triple J. ''Are You Involved?'' is the second major label album release by Perth alternative rock band Gyroscope. The album was released on 25 September 2005 in Australia and debuted at No. 20 on the Australian album charts. It was produced by Mark Trombino and recorded at Doug Messenger's harddrive analog and digital in North Hollywood, California. The album was originally proposed to be recorded at Sing Sing Studios, Melbourne with Mark Hoppus (Blink 182's bass player ) producing. Hoppus however had to withdraw from the project ten days before recording commenced. The band were able to secure producer, Mark Trombino ( Jimmy Eat World, Rocket from the Crypt, The Living End) at the last minute but had to shift their recording venue to Los Angeles. Gyroscope are an Australian rock band from Perth, which formed in 1997 as Gyroscope Sunday. The members are Daniel Sanders as lead vocalist and on guitar, Zoran Trivic on guitar and backing vocals, Brad Campbell on bass guitar and backing vocals and Rob Nassif on drums. As of 2014 the group has released four studio albums on major labels. Gyroscope's first major label album, ''Sound Shattering Sound'', was released in June 2004 – seven years after formation. ''Sleeps Like a Curse'' is the second studio album by Australian band, The Panics. It was released on 8 August 2005 by littleBIGMAN Records. The Panics
The Panics are an indie rock band originally from Perth, Western Australia, and currently based in Melbourne, Victoria. History 2000–2006: Band formation and LittleBigMan Records The band started out while Jae Laffer (then known by his actual first name, Justin) and Drew Wootton were still at high school in Kalamunda, an outer suburb of Perth, Western Australia. Laffer and Wootton met on their first day of school. The duo added Drew's younger brother Myles on drums, Paul Otway on bass and Jules Douglas on slide guitar, keyboards and vocals and formed The Panics. After being spotted playing at the Inglewood Hotel by Happy Mondays' Gaz Whelan and Pete Carroll, following Happy Mondays' Perth performance at The Big Day Out in 2000, they were the first signing to the UK-based label LittleBIGMAN Records. Addicted Romantic
''Addicted Romantic'' is the debut studio album by Australian indie rock band Faker. Record label Capitol Records released the album on 13 June 2005. Four singles were released from the album; "Quarter to Three", "The Familiar"/"Enough", "Love for Sale", and "Hurricane". Of these, "Hurricane" was the most successful; it reached number 21 on the Triple J Hottest 100, 2005. The album spent one week on the ARIA Albums Chart at number 44, on 26 June 2005. The album was recorded by Faker with Lindsay Gravina, of Magic Dirt fame, at Melbourne's Birdland Studios. The inspiration for "Enough", the first song written from the album, came to lead singer Nathan Hudson from a Patti Smith song in 1997. Eight years later, the band worked with Gravina to produce "the winning sound" on the album. He said the biggest challenge in recording was objectivity; choosing which songs to use, as well as improving their studio recording technique. Faker are an Australian alternative rock band, formed in 1996 by mainstay Nathan Hudson on lead vocals, piano and guitar. They have released three studio albums, '' Addicted Romantic'' (June 2005), '' Be the Twilight'' (November 2007) and ''Get Loved'' (December 2011). Their highest charting single, "This Heart Attack" (2007), peaked at No. 9 on the ARIA Singles Chart. The group disbanded in December 2013, but they announced their reformation in October 2020.
