Jūkyūsai No Chizu
(English: ''A 19-Year-Old's Map'') is a 1979 coming-of-age Japanese film written and directed by Mitsuo Yanagimachi. It is the director's first feature fiction film. It is based on the Kenji Nakagami novel of the same name. The lead actor, Yūji Honma, made his fiction debut here after appearing in Yanagimachi's documentary from 1978. The film depicts an introverted and embittered young man in the process of becoming an adult and discovering the loneliness of life and the failings of human beings. It was voted the 7th best Japanese film of the year by Kinema Junpo. Plot Yoshioka Masaru is a 19-year-old who comes from an impoverished background in the countryside. He attends a preparatory school, has no real goals or aspirations in life, and has apparently no experience with girls. To make ends meet, he works as a newspaper delivery boy. Mitsuo Yanagimachi
is a Japanese screenwriter and film director. Career Born in Namegata District, Ibaraki, Yanagimachi attended the Faculty of Law at Waseda University but began studying filmmaking. Working as a freelance assistant director after graduating, he started his own production company in 1974 and produced the documentary film ''God Speed You! Black Emperor'' (1976) about bōsōzoku. He made his fiction film debut in 1979 with '' Jūkyūsai no Chizu''. That and the later '' Himatsuri'' were based on novels by Kenji Nakagami. His 1982 work '' Saraba Itoshiki Daichi'' showed in the Competition at the Berlin Film Festival. His films have often focused on youth ('' Who's Camus Anyway?''), on ethnic minorities in Japan ('' Ai ni Tsuite, Tokyo''), as well as on Asia ('' Shadow of China'' and the documentary '' Tabisuru Pao-jiang-hu''). was a Japanese singer-songwriter. His hit debut single "Jūgo no Yoru" and debut album ''Jūnanasai no Chizu'' were released in 1983. He died in 1992 at the age of 26. Biography Early life Ozaki was born at Japan Self-Defense Forces Central Hospital in Setagaya, Tokyo, to Kinue and Kenichi Ozaki. He had one older brother, Yasushi. Early in life, he was hospitalized with intestinal torsion and bronchitis which subsequently weakened his internal organs. It was first published three times a month, using the Japanese ''Jun'' (旬) system of dividing months into three parts, but the postwar ''Kinema Junpō'' has been published twice a month.
