Judo At The 2016 Summer Olympics – Men's 81 Kg
The men's 81 kg competition in judo at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro was held on 9 August at the Carioca Arena 2. The gold and silver medals were determined by a single-elimination tournament, with the winner of the final taking gold and the loser receiving silver. Judo events awarded two bronze medals. Quarterfinal losers competed in a repechage match for the right to face a semifinal loser for a bronze medal (that is, the judokas defeated in quarterfinals A and B competed against each other, with the winner of that match facing the semifinal loser from the other half of the bracket). Carioca Arena 2
Carioca Arena 2 (Portuguese: ''Arena Carioca 2'') is a technical education institution and indoor stadium in Barra da Tijuca in the west zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The venue hosted judo at the 2016 Summer Olympics, judo and wrestling at the 2016 Summer Olympics as well as boccia at the 2016 Summer Paralympics. As with a number of other venues in the Barra Olympic Park, Carioca Arena 2 was transformed after the games to become part of the Olympic Training Center (Rio de Janeiro), Olympic Training Centre. The arena has since been converted into a branch of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology. It serves 1400 students. Antoine Valois-Fortier
Antoine Valois-Fortier (born 13 March 1990) is a Canadian retired judoka who won the bronze medal in the −81 kg category at the 2012 Olympics, becoming the first Canadian to win a medal in Olympic judo in twelve years and the fifth to win one in Canadian history. Career Valois-Fortier entered the 2012 Olympics ranked 21st in the world in his weight class. He pulled off several upset victories, including a win over Olympic gold medalist Elnur Mammadli, to make the quarterfinals. He lost to Ivan Nifontov of Russia, but made the repechage and defeated Emmanuel Lucenti of Argentina to enter the bronze medal match against Travis Stevens, which he then won. Valois-Fortier's win is Canada's first Olympic medal in Judo since 2000, which was a silver won by his coach Nicolas Gill, and only the fifth won by a Canadian in Olympic history. Josateki Naulu (8 June 1984) is a Fijian judoka who was flag-bearer for Fiji at the 2012 Summer Olympics. In the Men's 81kg event, he lost in the second round. Joachim Bottieau (born 20 March 1989) is a Belgian judoka.
