Jangchung Gymnasium
The Jangchung Arena () is an indoor sporting arena located in Jung District, Seoul, South Korea. Volleyball teams GS Caltex Seoul Kixx and Seoul Woori Card Woori Won are the tenants. History At first, the arena was an army gymnasium, built on 23 June 1955. It was later fully reconstructed and opened on 1 February 1963. In 1966, the venue hosted a boxing match between Kim Ki-soo and Nino Benvenuti, where Kim became the first South Korean to win the boxing world championships. During the 1970s, the venue hosted the presidential elections and inaugurations of Park Chung Hee and Choi Kyu-hah. The venue hosted judo and taekwondo events at the 1988 Summer Olympics. Jason Newth Morris (born February 3, 1967) is an American retired judoka. He was a four-time Olympian and 2008 Olympic Coach, best known for winning the silver medal in the 78 kg weight category in the 1992 Summer Olympics and a Bronze Medal in the 1993 World Judo Championships. Adrian Neil Adams, (27 September 1958) is an English judoka who won numerous Olympic and World Championship medals in judo representing Great Britain. He was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 1983 New Year Honours for services to judo. Early life Adams was educated at Myton School in Warwick. Adams' brother was the late professional wrestling star Chris Adams, who himself had a successful career in judo before turning to pro wrestling in 1978. Judo competition career Adams was the first British male to win a World title, and the first British male to simultaneously hold a world title and a European title. John Baylon
John Baylon (born 6 November 1965) is a Filipino judoka who has competed in the Summer Olympics and a multi-medalist in the Southeast Asian Games. Career He trained in Judo in Japan at the Kōdōkan where he obtained his Judo black belt. He competed at the 1988 Summer Olympics and the 1992 Summer Olympics. Baylon has won a total of nine gold medals in the Southeast Asian Games, first competing in the regional tournament in the 1980s. His first gold medal in the games was in the 1991 edition which was hosted in Manila. He was the flagbearer of the Philippine Southeast Asian Games delegation in 2007. In 2002, Baylon decided to take up Brazilian jiu-jitsu and obtained his black belt in the discipline from Toshiyuki Wado in 2008. He also won medals in Judo at the World Masters, and Asian Games. Hirotaka Okada
is a retired judoka who competed in the 78 kg and 86 kg divisions. Biography Okada began judo in primary school, and won the inter-highschool light heavyweight judo tournament in 1984. While attending the University of Tsukuba, he won the Jigoro Kano Cup in 1986 and the All-Japan Judo Championships in 1987 and 1988, followed with a gold medal in the 78 kg division of the World Judo Championships in 1987. This earned him a spot on the Japanese olympic judo team for the 1988 Summer Olympics, but he was unable to win a medal after a loss in the third round of the tournament. Okada joined the Marunaka corporation in 1990, and continued his graduate studies at the University of Tsukuba until 1993. In 1990, he moved up in weight to win the 86 kg divisions of the Kodokan Cup and Asian Games.
