Juan Sánchez-Navarro Y Peón
Juan Sánchez-Navarro y Peón (April 24, 1913 – February 12, 2006) was a Mexican businessman, lawyer, philosopher, philanthropist, journalist and professor. For more than 40 years, he served as Executive Vice President of Grupo Modelo. In addition, he led various national business organizations and was a main co-founder of Mexico's National Action Party (Mexico), National Action Party PAN. Though he himself not a National Action Party (Mexico), PAN affiliate, he believed in the essential importance of democracy by means of a bi-partisan system that could serve as a contrast to then Mexico's ruling political party Partido Revolucionario Institucional, PRI (thus his involvement National Action Party (Mexico), PAN in its inception). National Action Party (Mexico)
The National Action Party (, PAN) is a Conservatism, conservative List of political parties in Mexico, political party in Mexico founded in 1939. It is one of the main political parties in the country, and, since the 1980s, has had success winning local, state, and national elections. In the historic 2000 Mexican general election, PAN candidate Vicente Fox was elected president, the first time in 71 years that the Mexican presidency was not held by the traditional ruling party, the Institutional Revolutionary Party, PRI. ''El Siglo de Torreón'' is a Mexican daily newspaper based in Comarca Lagunera, Mexico. It was founded in 1922 in Torreón, Coahuila by Antonio de Juambelz y Bracho under the direction of Joaquin Moreno. History In 1921, Antonio de Juambelz y Bracho was dedicated to the edition of a newspaper in the capital of Coahuila that promoted the candidacy for governor of Gral. Arnulfo González, and when he became governor, the newspaper disappeared. Antonio de Juambelz already had extensive experience in the journalistic field, so Joaquín Moreno invited him to the city of Torreón to start with the project of a regional newspaper, calling himself "Defender of the Community." The first printing machine was obtained from the then governor of the state of Durango, he never refused to donate it because Joaquín Moreno, Antonio de Juambelz was appointed sub-manager while Mr. Moreno himself was the managing director of the nascent company. ''La Jornada'' (''The Working Day'') is one of Mexico City's leading daily newspapers. It was established in 1984 by Carlos Payán Velver. The current editor (''directora general'') is Carmen Lira Saade. 2000 Mexican General Election
General elections were held in Mexico on Sunday, 2 July 2000. Voters went to the polls to elect a new president to serve a single six-year term, replacing President Ernesto Zedillo Ponce de León, who was ineligible for re-election under the 1917 Constitution. The election system ran under plurality voting; 500 members of the Chamber of Deputies (300 by the first-past-the-post system and 200 by proportional representation) for three-year terms and 128 members of the Senate (three per state by first-past-the-post – two first-past-the-post seats are allocated to the party with the largest share of the vote; the remaining seat is given to the first runner-up – and 32 by proportional representation from national party lists) for six-year terms. Vicente Fox Quesada (; born 2 July 1942) is a Mexican businessman and politician who served as the 62nd president of Mexico from 2000 to 2006. After campaigning as a Right-wing populism, right-wing populist, Fox was elected president on the National Action Party (Mexico), National Action Party (PAN) ticket in the 2000 Mexican general election, 2000 election. He became the first president not from the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) since 1929, and the first elected from an opposition party since Francisco I. Madero in 1911. Fox won the election with 43 percent of the vote.
