João José Sinel De Cordes
João José Sinel de Cordes (18 August 1867, in Barcarena ( Oeiras) – 29 January 1930, in Lisbon) was a Portuguese general and politician. A confidant of Sidónio Pais, he became the chief of the General Staff of the Portuguese Expeditionary Corps in France on 1 March 1918. He participated in the 28 May 1926 coup d'état, together with Generals Manuel Gomes da Costa, Alves Roçadas and Óscar Carmona, thus creating the Ditadura Nacional. Oeiras () is a town and concelho, municipality in the western part of Lisbon metropolitan area, located within the Portuguese Riviera, in continental Portugal. The municipality is part of the urban agglomeration of Lisbon and the town of Oeiras is about 16 km from Lisbon downtown. The population in 2011 was 172,120 living in an area of 45.88 km2, making the municipality the fifth-most densely populated in Portugal. History The Ministry of Finance has its origins on the Comptrollerships of the Exchequer (''vedorias da Fazenda'') created in the 14th century to run the State's financial affairs. After 1584, the comptrollerships are replaced by the Council of the Court of the Exchequer (''Conselho do Tribunal da Fazenda'').
