''Jovano, Jovanke'' (; ) is a traditional folk song originating from the region of Macedonia. It is popular in and frequently performed in North Macedonia, Bulgaria, and the Macedonia region of Greece. The song has also been adapted and performed in neighboring Balkan states such as Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Croatia. It is about two young lovers separated by their disapproving parents. The song mentions the Vardar river which runs through present-day North Macedonia and present-day Greece. Jovanka Broz
Jovanka Broz (; sr-Cyrl, Јованка Броз, Будисављевић; 7 December 1924 – 20 October 2013) was the First Lady of Yugoslavia from 1952 until 1980 as the wife of Yugoslav president Josip Broz Tito. She was a lieutenant colonel in the Yugoslav People's Army. Born in Lika, she joined the anti-fascist resistance movement in 1941 and served in the Partisan army during World War II, where she was wounded twice and awarded the Order of Bravery. In 1945, she was assigned as Tito’s personal secretary and later became his wife in 1952. As First Lady, she participated in numerous diplomatic events and hosted foreign leaders. In the 1970s, tensions with Tito’s close aides led to accusations of political interference, resulting in her isolation and eventual separation from Tito in 1977. Jovanka Houska (born 10 June 1980) is an English chess player with the titles International Master (IM) and Woman Grandmaster (WGM). She is a nine-time British Chess Championship, British Women's Chess Champion. Formative years Born in south London, her family name stems from her grandfather who was part Czech. Tegan Jovanka
Tegan Jovanka is a fictional character played by Janet Fielding in the long-running British science fiction television series ''Doctor Who''. An Australian airline stewardess and a native of Brisbane who was a companion of the Fourth and Fifth Doctors, she was a regular in the programme from 1981 to 1984. Tegan appeared in 20 stories (65 episodes). According to producer John Nathan-Turner, when he was thinking of a name for the character, it was either going to be Tegan, after his partner's niece in Australia, or Jovanka, after Jovanka Broz, the widow of Yugoslav president Josip Broz Tito, so he wrote both down on a piece of paper.
