''Journey Back To Oz'' is a 1972 American Animation, animated Adventure film, adventure Musical film, musical fantasy film produced by Filmation. Although L. Frank Baum received no screen credit, the film is loosely based on his second novel ''The Marvelous Land of Oz'' (1904). While a commercial flop in theaters, the film received a better reception on television, premiering December 5, 1976 on American Broadcasting Company, ABC. For television broadcast, Filmation produced live-action interstitial segments with a celebrity playing Wizard of Oz (character), the Wizard, flying in his balloon with two Munchkins. Filmation contracted with Bill Cosby for two airings of the live-action segments, while Milton Berle was cast for the live-action interstitials used in subsequent syndication. Hal Sutherland
Harold H. "Hal" Sutherland (July 1, 1929 – January 16, 2014) was an American animator and painter who began his career as a Disney animator in 1954 working on ''Sleeping Beauty (1959 film), Sleeping Beauty'', ''Lady and the Tramp'', ''Peter Pan (1953 film), Peter Pan'' and the last theatrical short that featured Donald Duck. Amos Muzyad Yaqoob Kairouz, (born January 6, 1912 – February 6, 1991) known professionally as Danny Thomas, was an American comedian, actor, singer, producer, and philanthropist. A Munchkin is a native of the fictional Munchkin Country in the Oz books by American author L. Frank Baum. Although a common fixture in Germanic fairy tales, they are introduced to modern audiences with the first appearance in the classic children's novel ''The Wonderful Wizard of Oz'' (1900) where they welcome Dorothy Gale to their city in Oz.
