Joseph Fogerty
Joseph Fogerty, CE, FRIBA, (1831–1899) was an Irish civil engineer, architect, and novelist active in mid-to-late-nineteenth-century Limerick, London, and Vienna. Born in Limerick, he studied under his father, engineer John Fogerty (engineer), John Fogerty in Limerick before entering the University College London in 1856, later working in London for Sir John Fowler, 1st Baronet, Sir John Fowler. He was elected Royal Institute of British Architects, Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects on 9 February 1880 after being proposed by Henry Currey (architect), Henry Currey, Edwin Nash and Charles Barry. Three of his novels, ''Lauterdale (novel), Lauterdale'', ''Caterina (novel), Caterina'' and ''Countess Irene (novel), Countess Irene'', were published. The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) is a professional body for architects primarily in the United Kingdom, but also internationally, founded for the advancement of architecture under its royal charter granted in 1837, three supplemental charters and a new charter granted in 1971.
